How to Set Up Wi-Fi on HP LaserJet M209dw?

Hi all, I recently bought an HP LaserJet M209dw and I’m having trouble setting it up on Wi-Fi. The printer works fine with USB, but I can’t figure out how to connect it to my wireless network. The printer screen options are a bit confusing, and it’s not showing up on my Wi-Fi list.

If anyone has done the Wi-Fi setup successfully or knows the correct steps, please share. Thanks in advance!

Turn on your HP LaserJet M209dw, then press and hold the Wireless + Cancel buttons for a few seconds until the blue light blinks. Open HP Smart, tap Add Printer, select your Wi-Fi, and enter the password. When the blue light turns solid, it’s connected. Make sure your router is on 2.4 GHz.

Use the printer’s own Wi‑Fi setup first, then add it in Windows.

    1. On the printer, turn on wireless and connect it to Wi‑Fi
      • Make sure the printer is powered on.
      • Use the printer’s built‑in menu to find the Wireless or Network settings.
      • Turn on the wireless option.
      • Select your Wi‑Fi network name (SSID) and enter the Wi‑Fi password.
      • If available, run the printer’s wireless connectivity test from the same menu to confirm it’s connected.
      • If unsure where these options are, check the printer’s manual or HP’s support site for the exact menu path for the LaserJet M209dw.
    2. Confirm the printer and PC are on the same network
      • If using wireless access points, extenders, or multiple routers/SSIDs, make sure the printer connects to the same Wi‑Fi network that the Windows PC uses.
    3. Add the printer in Windows 10/11
      • On the Windows PC, select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      • Check if the HP LaserJet M209dw is already listed. If it is, select it and print a test page.
      • If it is not listed:
        1. Next to Add a printer or scanner (or Add device), select Add device.
        2. Wait while Windows searches for nearby printers.
        3. When the HP LaserJet M209dw appears, select Add device.
      • If the printer is still not found, choose The printer that I want isn’t listed / Add a new device manually and follow the wizard.
    4. If the printer was previously installed via USB
      • If Windows is confused between USB and network instances, remove the old entry and reinstall:
        1. Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
        2. Select the existing HP LaserJet M209dw entry and choose Remove / Remove device.
        3. With the printer still connected to Wi‑Fi, select Add device again and add the network version when it appears.
    5. If the printer still does not show up
      • Power‑cycle the printer: turn it off, unplug for ~30 seconds, plug back in, and turn it on.
      • Ensure the wireless icon on the printer indicates it is connected.
      • On the PC, verify Wi‑Fi is working and online.
      • Then repeat step 3 to add the printer.

Once added, set it as default if desired: in Printers & scanners, select the printer and choose Set as default.
