Hi,

After installing the latest Microsoft update this evening a floating speaker icon with a line through it has appeared on my monitor.

I restarted the desktop, restarted windows audio, turned off and on the speaker, turned off enhancement, updated drivers, rolled back drivers, and a few other things I found through searching the web.

Can anyone help me with this issue, it would be very appreciated.

Windows 11 Home

Version 25H2

Installed on 16/12/2025

    Hi @KJA,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your sharing, the floating speaker icon on your display is certainly a persistent nuisance to deal with after an update. Since you have already tried with the standard driver and service resets, this specific overlay is likely being generated by your monitor’s hardware settings or a third-party utility rather than a native Windows process.

To help clear this from your screen, please try the following:

    • Check Monitor Hardware: use the physical buttons on your monitor to enter the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu. Look for an audio section to ensure the monitor itself isn't muted. A "hard reset", unplugging the power and display cables for 30 seconds, can often clear stuck hardware icons.
    • Review Peripheral Software: tools like Logitech G HUB, Logi Options+, or manufacturer-specific display managers (such as Dell Display Manager or HP Display Center) often trigger these overlays. Check their settings for "On-screen notifications" and toggle them off.
    • Disable Monitor Audio: go to Settings > System > Sound, find your monitor under the Output list, and select "Don't allow". This prevents Windows from using the monitor as a speaker, which usually kills the associated mute icon.

If the icon persists, please visit the Microsoft support portal. Once there, choose the relevant category, describe the behavior in the text box, and follow the on-screen prompts to further check this with a technician.

I appreciate your understanding and wait for your reply.
