The prompt will ask me to sign in again and need the password changed every time I use a different home pc. One pc is an HP and the other is a Mac pc. Please help on what can be done to keep them all signed in simultaneously.

Hello john cook, thanks for posting this in the community.

This issue usually happens when your Microsoft account detects a security conflict or when one of your devices is still using old cached sign‑in information. It can also occur if the password was recently changed and one device did not update the new credentials. To fix this, please make sure all your devices are using the same updated Microsoft account password, then sign out from every browser and app on both your Windows PC and Mac before signing in again. Clearing the browser cookies and sign‑in data in Edge, Safari, or Chrome also helps remove stored tokens that may force repeated logins. If you use two‑step verification, check that each device is using the correct and updated authentication method so it does not create a new session every time you switch devices. You can also review your security settings at https://account.microsoft.com/security and remove old or duplicate sessions that may cause conflicts. Once all devices are refreshed and fully aligned with the same credentials, your account should stay signed in across both computers. If the problem continues, it may mean one device still has outdated sign‑in data, so repeating the sign‑out and cache clear on that specific device usually resolves it.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli

Microsoft 365 and Microsoft accounts support being signed in on multiple devices at the same time, so repeated sign‑outs and password prompts usually indicate a sign‑in/security or browser/session issue rather than a hard limitation.

Try these steps to keep accounts signed in across the HP PC and the Mac:

    1. Confirm sign‑in limits are not the cause
      • A Microsoft 365 subscription allows being signed in to Office on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 phones at the same time.
      • If more than 5 devices are in use, Microsoft 365 may automatically sign out older sessions; just sign back in on the device that was signed out.
    2. Avoid using private/incognito browsing for everyday use
      • Private/InPrivate/Incognito windows are designed to forget sign‑in information when closed, which forces sign‑in every time.
      • Use a normal browser window on both PCs for regular access so the browser can remember the session.
    3. Use separate browser profiles if using multiple accounts
      • Microsoft 365 uses single sign‑on per browser profile. If switching between different Microsoft accounts in the same browser profile, it can trigger frequent sign‑ins.
      • In Microsoft Edge, create a separate profile for each Microsoft account and sign in once per profile. After that, each profile will stay signed in independently.
    4. Make sure security settings are not forcing sign‑outs
      • If the account has been locked or flagged for suspicious activity, Microsoft may require frequent password changes or re‑sign‑in.
      • Check the account’s security settings and sign‑in methods on the Advanced security options page and ensure recovery methods (phone/email) are up to date.
    5. General tips for staying signed in
      • On personal/home devices, allow the browser to remember sign‑in and do not sign out manually unless needed.
      • Avoid signing in to the same account on public or shared computers; if used, do so only in private browsing and sign out when finished.

If the problem continues even when using normal (non‑private) browser windows and staying within device limits, review the account’s security configuration and recent activity from the Microsoft account dashboard to ensure it is not being automatically protected due to suspicious sign‑ins.
