I've been trying to download and install the 2025-12 Security Update (KB5072033) (26200.7462) for a couple of weeks and continue to receive a download error. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

May I please know the download error you are encountering when installing the 2025-12 Security Update (KB5072033) (26200.7462)?

Have you already tried running these troubleshooting steps and seeing if it helps?

1 Windows Update Troubleshooter - Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooter > Windows Update > Click Run.

Once the troubleshooter is finished running, restart your computer and install the updates.

2 Run the System File Checker Utility scan -

Open the CMD administrator window, run the commands below, and click Enter one by one.

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    sfc /scannow

Once completed, restart your computer and install the updates again.

Let me know if you still need more help.

The context only covers specific, older Windows Update and Internet Explorer download issues, not the 2025-12 Security Update (KB5072033) or error 26200.7462. It does not provide a direct, supported fix for this particular update.

However, it does show that when Windows Update repeatedly fails and the system appears corrupted, an in-place repair/upgrade using the Windows 11 ISO is a recommended remediation path that preserves files and apps. For persistent update failures similar to yours, the supported approach is:

    1. Download the latest Windows 11 ISO from the official Microsoft Software Download page for Windows 11.
    2. Ensure the ISO language matches the current Windows display language.
    3. Disconnect from the internet and unplug all nonessential external devices.
    4. Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus.
    5. In File Explorer, double-click the ISO, then run Setup.exe.
    6. When prompted, choose the option to keep personal files and apps.
    7. Complete the setup and then, after restart, run Windows Update again and retry installing the security update.

This procedure refreshes system components (including Windows Update) without removing installed applications or user data and is the documented next step when normal update attempts repeatedly fail.
