Lost product Key

Question

I purchased a laptop last summer that came with a year of Microsoft Office. I was forced to reset the laptop and now have to restore Microsoft Office access, but I don't have the product key. What do I do?

You also need to check if Microsoft Store >> Library >> Device Packages shows that Office is included as a gift.

Because the laptop came with a 1‑year Microsoft 365 subscription, there typically isn’t a printed product key. The subscription is usually tied to the Microsoft account used when Office was first activated.

Use these steps:

1. On the laptop, sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used when Office was originally set up.
2. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and check if the Microsoft 365 subscription is listed there. If it is, use the Install option shown with that subscription to reinstall Office.
3. If the device instead shows a trial and asks for a key, follow the guidance in “My new Windows PC came with Office but I can't find a product key”: a digital product key is transmitted to the PC when Windows is activated, and no printed key is provided. In that case, activation should complete automatically once signed in with the correct Microsoft account.
4. If a separate Microsoft 365 product key card was purchased and the key is now lost or damaged but there is valid proof of purchase, contact Microsoft support; support may be able to replace the key or offer other options.

If the original 1‑year subscription has expired, a new Microsoft 365 subscription must be purchased to continue using the full Office apps.
