Trouble connecting HP and Epson printers with new Lenovo Yogi on home wifi

We previously had a home network with two laptops, and two printers. They were in two different parts of the house and worked well over the wifi. My husband recently purchased a Lenova Yogi in 2026 running Windows 11. His printer was old and he had discontinued using it. He was printing to the HP printer in my area of the house. Worked fine. Then he decided to get a new printer and and set it up in place of the one he scrapped. He purchased an Epson Et 3930 and tried to set up the various connections again, using the Yogi. We cannot get either printer to connect and print as the previous printers worked, although we have done all the set ups we can find. The settings sometimes show the printers, but if we reboot the laptop, they disappear. So far we have not had anything print wirelessly to either printer. Could there be a problem with the laptop connection to the wifi?

Yes, there could be a Wi‑Fi/Windows configuration issue on the Lenovo, but the symptoms match common Windows printer connection problems more than a pure Wi‑Fi failure.

Work through these steps on the Lenovo Yogi in this order:

    1. Power‑cycle both printers
      1. Turn each printer off and unplug it.
      2. Wait 30 seconds.
      3. Plug back in and turn them on.
This clears many temporary printer faults.
    2. Verify Wi‑Fi and network for all devices
      1. Confirm the Lenovo is connected to the home Wi‑Fi and can browse the internet.
      2. Make sure both printers are connected to the same Wi‑Fi network/SSID as the Lenovo (important if the router broadcasts multiple networks or “guest” networks).
      3. On each printer, ensure the wireless feature is turned on and run the printer’s wireless connectivity test from its control panel (see the printer manuals or manufacturer sites for exact steps).
    3. Check basic printer connectivity in Windows 11
      1. On the Lenovo, select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      2. If either printer is listed but not working, select it and remove it.
      3. Still in Printers & scanners, select Add device and wait while Windows searches.
      4. When the HP or Epson appears, select Add device.
      5. If the printers do not appear, select Add manually / Add a new device manually and follow the wizard.
    4. If the printers keep disappearing after reboot
      1. Remove both printers again from Printers & scanners.
      2. Re‑add them as network/wireless printers as above, confirming they are on the same network.
      3. After adding, run Windows Update to pull any updated printer drivers.
    5. If Windows cannot find or install the Epson ET‑3930 The behavior is similar to known cases where Epson drivers do not install cleanly:
      1. Uninstall all Epson software and drivers from Settings > Apps.
      2. Reboot the Lenovo.
      3. Install the latest Epson ET‑3930 driver package as administrator, with the printer powered on and connected to Wi‑Fi, and let the installer complete before trying to print.
    6. If printers still show but do not print
      1. Use the Windows printer troubleshooter: on Windows 11, open the Get Help app and run the printer troubleshooter from there. It will automatically diagnose and attempt to fix common printer issues.
      2. If the troubleshooter cannot fix it, follow the general steps above again and then check the manufacturer sites (HP and Epson) for model‑specific troubleshooting and driver updates.

If other devices in the house still print to these printers over Wi‑Fi, the issue is almost certainly on the Lenovo (drivers, printer configuration, or how Windows is discovering network printers), not the router itself.

I will save this answer in case we have any further trouble. We decided , before your answer arrived , to take the Epson printer back for a similar HP printer. We have never had connectivity problems with our HP photosmart, so we felt confident to do that. As expected, the connection went through using HP Smart app and we are happy with the exchange. But i will save this answer just in case. Thank you!

    Hi josie,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

I understand how frustrating it is when your printers stopped working, especially when it did work initially. Based on what you describe, this might be related to a behavior as mentioned here Printers Disappearing from Windows 11 - Microsoft Q&A.

You can try out the resolutions in the above thread and what the Q&A Assist suggested, to see if they help with your cases. Here are a few things you should consider checking:

1 - Turn off Windows automatic printer management

    • On the Lenovo, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
    • Turn OFF Let Windows manage my default printer > Restart the PC
    • This may prevent wireless printers from being deleted.

2 - Force the Print Spooler to stay alive

    • Press Win + R > type services.msc > press Enter
    • Find Print Spooler > Set Startup type: Automatic (Delayed Start)
    • Double-click it to open Properties > open Recovery tab
    • Set First failure, Second failure, Subsequent failures to Restart the Service
    • Click Apply > OK > Restart the laptop

3 - Re‑add the printers the stable way

    • Remove the Epson and HP from Printers & scanners completely
    • Restart both laptops and printers > ensure both printers use 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi
    • Add each printer again using Add device > Restart once more to see if it’s working.

I hope the information can help you get the printers working again!
