I have 2 Microsoft accounts. My son has taken over the first one, and I want to remove it from my computer without deleting the account.

    Hello,

Are you saying, when you go to Settings > Accounts > Your info, this is now listing your son's Microsoft account, instead of yours??

If so, this is what you do:

Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info

Click on Sign in with local user instead. follow the steps and finish the rest.

(If you don't see the "sign in with a local account instead option, click on "Stop signing into Microsoft apps automatically" first, then relaunch this page. ). This process will require his password so hopefully you can work with him for this process.

Restart the computer (Do Not skip)

Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info

Click on Sign in with Microsoft account instead. follow the steps and finish the rest. This time you sign in with yours.

Restart the computer (Do Not skip)

To remove the old Microsoft account from the computer without deleting the account itself, remove it only from Windows and any Microsoft apps where it is signed in.

On Windows (remove the account from the device):

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Go to Accounts > Other users.
    3. Under Other users, select the flyout for the old account.
    4. Select Remove next to Account and data.
      • This removes the sign-in information and data for that account from the device but does not delete the Microsoft account itself.

If the account is connected as a work or school account:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Go to Accounts > Access work or school.
    3. Select the dropdown next to that work or school account.
    4. Select Disconnect, then Yes to confirm.
      • This disconnects the account from the device but does not delete the account.

If the account is signed in to specific apps (examples):

    • OneDrive (Windows): Open OneDrive settings > Account tab > choose the old account > Unlink this PC or remove the account.
    • Outlook (new Outlook for Windows):
      1. Go to View > View settings, or File > Account info > Accounts > Your accounts.
      2. In Email accounts, find the old account and select Manage.
      3. Select Remove. This removes the account from Outlook only; it does not delete the account.

These steps ensure the old Microsoft account is no longer present or used on the computer, while the account itself remains active for your son to use elsewhere.
