Microsoft Edge Searches Before I'm Done Typing What I'm Searching For

Within the last week or two, I've encountered an issue where I'll start typing in the search bar, and Edge will essentially "press enter", stopping me from completing what I'm typing, and searching for results on however much of the search term I was able to type before it cut me off.

I have run a virus scan, and it came up with nothing. I have also tried restarting my computer, also with no luck in correcting the issue.

Does anyone know what might be going on, and how to fix it?

    Dear @Spokid,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter when using our services/ products. Based on your description, as you have tried many steps and it did not work, kindly try this following step:

Please confirm that the keyboard is functioning properly, particularly the Enter key.

Turn off Address Bar “typed characters” suggestions

    • Open Microsoft Edge > Settings and more (… ) > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Search and connected experiences > Address bar and search > Search suggestions and filters
    • Turn Off: Show search and site suggestions using your typed characters

Turn off “search suggestions as you type” in Bing settings

    • Go to Search - Settings > Uncheck "See search suggestions as you type" then click "Save"

    User's image

Disable Edge “Text prediction / Writing assistance”

    • Open Microsoft Edge > Settings and more (… ) > Settings > Languages
    • Under Writing assistance, turn Off Use text prediction
    • Optionally set writing assistance to Basic or turn it off

    Isolate extensions and profile corruption

    • Try to use InPrivate.
    • If InPrivate is fine: open edge://extensions and disable extensions, then re-enable one-by-one to find the culprit (common with “search helper”, “keyboard”, “translation”, or “security” add-ons).

I sincerely hope you understand that the initial steps I suggested may not have completely fixed the issue, as there may still be underlying causes that have not yet been identified. I am here to work closely with you, troubleshoot effectively, and explore every possible solution to ensure the best possible outcome.
