A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Facebook sends its own two-factor authentication (2FA) codes and controls where they go. Microsoft Authenticator can only display the codes after Facebook has been configured to use it.
To use Microsoft Authenticator (or any new device) for Facebook 2FA, Facebook must first be accessible so 2FA settings can be changed. If the current 2FA method points to a device that is no longer available and there is no backup method (such as SMS, email, or recovery codes), the only way to restore access is through Facebook/Meta’s own account recovery and support process.
Steps to try:
- Check for any backup 2FA methods on Facebook (SMS, email, recovery codes) if those were ever configured; use them to sign in and then:
- Turn on or adjust two-factor authentication.
- Add an authentication app and scan the QR code with Microsoft Authenticator on the new device.
- If no backup method works and the code always goes to the old device, contact Facebook/Meta support and follow their account recovery instructions. Only Facebook can change or bypass its own 2FA when all configured methods are inaccessible.
Microsoft and Microsoft Authenticator cannot move Facebook’s 2FA codes to a new device or disable Facebook 2FA; that must be done through Facebook.
