    Dear @Alex Taveras,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand that you’re having trouble opening a corrupted Excel file and are looking for the Open and Repair option. The key point to note is that “Open and Repair” is not a standalone button in the main Excel menu. It only appears within the Open file dialog box, and it is hidden behind a small dropdown arrow that is easy to miss.

Please follow the steps below carefully, as clicking the file name directly will trigger the standard (and failing) open attempt:

    1. Open the Excel application (start with a blank workbook).
    2. Click File > Open.
    3. Click Browse (Do not click the file name if it appears in a "Recent" list).
    4. In the file selection window that appears, single-click your corrupted file once to highlight it.
    5. Look at the bottom right of that same window, next to the Open button. You will see a small downward-pointing arrow (dropdown menu).
    6. Click that arrow, and Open and Repair will appear in the list.

If Open and Repair fails or does not work, this usually indicates that the file corruption is too severe for the standard repair tool. In that case, please try the following alternative recovery methods:

    • Extract Data: When you click "Open and Repair," a prompt will often ask if you want to "Repair" or "Extract Data." Choose Extract Data; it will attempt to pull the formulas and values into a new workbook, even if it can't fix the formatting or structural corruption.
    • Use Excel Online: Upload the corrupted file to OneDrive.com and try opening it in the browser version. Excel Online uses a different rendering engine and can often open files that the desktop version rejects.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments so I can continue to support you. I'm looking forward to your reply.
