Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Dear @Asmussen, Hans,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand your concern, especially since Microsoft 365 was previously installed and this only started after restoring from a backup image.
According to my research, here are some steps I recommend you try:
Option 1: Use Microsoft 365 troubleshooters
- Go to this site: Microsoft 365 troubleshooters > Expand Microsoft 365 Uninstall troubleshooter and click Start. This will open the Get help app.
- See if it detects any previous office installation files.
- If no office applications are detected, on the same link above, expand the Microsoft 365 Setup troubleshooter and click Start.
- Run the Get help app and follow the prompts.
Option 2: Manually create a TEMP folder and Move the Office installer
- Open File Explorer > Create a new "temp" folder at "C:\Temp"
- Move OfficeSetup.exe (or the extracted offline installer folder) directly into C:\Temp
- Right‑click OfficeSetup.exe > Select Run as administrator
- For reference: Unable to install Office. Error Code: 30015-2030 (13) -- solution and Error Code 30015-2030 (13) Solution
Option 3: New local administrator account
Try to create a new local administrator account, replace the user environment to try to rule out is a specific user configuration issue. Create a new local administrator account and log in to the system with that account to see if the installation works. For more information, see: Manage user accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support.
Option 4: Resetting the network again
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced Network Settings > Click Network reset.
So, I recommend you try changing the DNS Server address here if the network reset did not resolve the issue.
- Open the Control panel > Network & Sharing Center> Change Adapter settings in the left pane, select your default Wi-Fi network connected, and click properties.
- Uncheck "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPV6).
- Then, click Internet protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Select Properties > select the radio button "Use the following DNS Server Addresses": Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8 Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.4.4
- Click Apply and OK, then run the Office setup file as Administrator.
Option 5: If the issue persists, press Windows + R, type inetcpl.cpl, and press Enter.
Go to the Advanced tab and make sure TLS 1.1, TLS 1.2, and TLS 1.3 are checked.
If the issue still persists, to better narrow down the Microsoft 365 installation issue, could you please confirm the following:
- Which Windows version and build are you currently running? (e.g. Windows 10 / 11, 22H2, 23H2)
- After the restore, did you run Windows Update fully until no updates were left?
- After the restore, do you see any Office apps listed under Settings > Apps > Installed apps?
- How are you installing Microsoft 365 now?
- Is there any third‑party antivirus or endpoint protection installed?
- Is this personal device or company-managed device?

I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction. Please try the steps above and let me know if they work. If not, we can continue working together to narrow this down.
The first response may not always resolve the issue right away, but with your help and more details, we can work toward a solution.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.
