I bought microsoft office standard for my windows laptop on Groupon. I didn't get a product key .

Frustrating because I have 2007 office products but I don't have a dvd drive to install it. I shouldn't have to purchase this again. I'm retired and just trying to keep things in a spreadsheet for my volunteer group i'm in.

Help!!!

If you don’t get the key from Groupon you need to dispute with them. Unfortunately I don’t think Microsoft can do anything about it if the purchase was via their party.

I also want to caution you against Groupon. They are known to sell volume license keys not meant for consumers. These keys can work for some time then stop working due to lack of organization management environment. They can be cheaper for a reason because it’s against Microsoft licensing terms.

Groupon and other third‑party sites must provide an actual Office product key or a valid way to access it. If no key was provided, the seller must resolve it; Microsoft cannot generate a key for that purchase.

    Use these steps:

    1. Check for the product key from the Groupon purchase
      • Look in the Groupon order confirmation and “voucher” details for a 25‑character key in the form XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
      • Check any follow‑up email from the seller listed on the Groupon deal (sometimes the key is sent separately).
      • If the deal redirects to another site to “redeem” the purchase, sign in there and look for a product key or “Product key/Install” option similar to what is described for Microsoft Store orders.
    2. If there is still no key
      • Contact Groupon support and the specific seller through the Groupon order page and state that the Office purchase did not include a product key.
      • Request either:
        • A valid Office product key, or
        • A refund if they cannot provide a legitimate key.
      • If the key they eventually provide does not work or stops working, request a refund. Keys sold separately from the software are often stolen or blocked and Microsoft support will direct back to the seller.
    3. Be cautious about the license type
      • “Office Standard” and “Professional Plus” are typically volume licenses meant for organizations and are not sold to individual consumers. If a Groupon listing is selling these very cheaply, the license may be unauthorized and can be blocked.
    4. About the old Office 2007 you own
      • Office 2007 product keys are normally on the CD case, packaging, Certificate of Authenticity, or in the original confirmation email. Without the DVD, that key alone is not enough to reinstall because Office 2007 downloads are no longer provided in the current documentation.
      • If the 2007 key no longer works or has been blocked, the guidance is also to contact the seller and request a refund; Microsoft cannot re‑issue a retail key.
    5. If you buy Office again in the future
      • Buy only from Microsoft or a reputable Microsoft partner.
      • Ensure the seller clearly provides a product key and that the product will appear under the Microsoft account after activation, not just as an “activation key” tied only to a device.

For your current Groupon purchase, the only supported path in the documentation is to resolve the missing or non‑working key directly with Groupon/the seller or obtain a refund and then purchase a legitimate license elsewhere.
