Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum and thank you for your question.
What’s happening is related to the email domain, not the account type. Some legacy ISP email domains (including @sympatico.ca from Bell Canada) are treated by as managed domains.
When one of these addresses is used as the primary sign‑in name, the system prevents changing it and shows the message “Your organization’s policies prevent you from changing your primary username.” You do not have the authority to change the primary alias of the enterprise account. You can only change the primary alias using a personal Microsoft account.
You can continue using the account by signing in with a new Outlook.com alias (even if Sympatico remains listed). Update Security > Additional security options so recovery emails and codes do not rely on the Sympatico address. If you must have a different primary sign‑in name and the system won’t allow it, create a new Microsoft account and migrate data.
Thank you for your understanding.
