Document association in Edge wrong, when opening. .docg

I have a friend who received and downloaded a document ".docg" It is the first I have heard of it, until he called me. My understanding is that it is a google document. So, you know what happens when you try to open a document that it doesn't recognize. I have Gmail, and if called I could have taken care of it. When he downloaded it and tried to open it, he pop up box opens and the question ask what program you would like to open it with. Click open with Edge, might be IE I have to go back. Of course, the always open it with this program was clicked. I tried to change the opening with a different app., but the problem there is nothing in the app. I think it is a browser thing with google. I figured we had enough types of documents. I tried to reset Edge with no luck. I have tried to try to work with the extension and get it to change, I haven't found a specific app to download. I may have to download google or gmail to try and clear the problem. Any help would be Appreciated. Thanks Bruce

The problem is that the docg is set to be opened by Edge. I have gone into settings and Edge and trying to change it. Doesn't matter tried Word, and even google. I have an account through google, but no matter it still wants to open in the extension that assigned to it. I can't seem to change it to the correct or program that will open it. It seems docg is tied to an online program from google?

The access to the file extension needs to be changed. Tried through settings, default apps, Edge with no luck yet. thanks Bruce

Hello !

You are probably referring to a .gdoc file, which is the format used by Google tools. You must therefore use Google Docs to open it.
Edge will not be able to read the file : even if Windows gives you the option, Edge does not have the ability to open documents (apart from PDFs.)
