Snipping Tool - Why did you make it slower to use?

Okay, quick rant on an MS forum because maybe someone responsible for this change will actually consider fixing it. Whoever re-designed the snipping tool to require extra clicks to copy things, WHY?

The snipping tool was literally perfect: win+shift+s, draw the capture box and it would automatically jump to my clipboard.

Why am I now required to select what type of capture I want? Why is this not a setting in Windows settings I can enable/disable, instead of a confirmation box I need to click every single time I want to capture a screenshot and paste it somewhere quickly?

Please change this ASAP. It just adds extra unnecessary steps to an otherwise perfect process.

    Dear Adam

Thank you for your question and for sharing the details into Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I’m sorry the current Snipping Tool experience hasn’t felt as smooth and “instant” as you expect, especially when your goal is to capture and paste as quickly as possible. I understand the workflow you’re aiming for (Win + Shift + S > drag to capture > paste immediately). At this point, I recommend that you review the information provided in the Independent Advisor’s answer on your thread. That reply typically include the most relevant recommendations for this scenario.

If your device has a PrtSc / PrtScn key, below are a few built-in shortcuts you can use depending on whether you want instant paste or automatic saving in the meantime:

    • Alt + PrtScn (active window only): Copies the current active window to the clipboard > paste with Ctrl + V.
    • Win + PrtScn: PrtScn: Saves automatically to Pictures > Screenshots. This is helpful if you want a saved record right away.

Hope this helps reduce the extra steps and speed up your screenshot routine. Wishing you a smooth and productive experience with your Windows screenshot workflow. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Hi Adam, the setting should persist once you select Capture.

Can you take a photo using your Phone of the Snipping tool menu(the one that opens after pressing Windows key + SHIFT +S) , so that I can guide you better?

I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.
