Dear Adam,
Thank you for your question and for sharing the details into Microsoft Q&A Forum.
I’m sorry the current Snipping Tool experience hasn’t felt as smooth and “instant” as you expect, especially when your goal is to capture and paste as quickly as possible. I understand the workflow you’re aiming for (Win + Shift + S > drag to capture > paste immediately). At this point, I recommend that you review the information provided in the Independent Advisor’s answer on your thread. That reply typically include the most relevant recommendations for this scenario.
If your device has a PrtSc / PrtScn key, below are a few built-in shortcuts you can use depending on whether you want instant paste or automatic saving in the meantime:
- Alt + PrtScn (active window only): Copies the current active window to the clipboard > paste with Ctrl + V.
- Win + PrtScn: PrtScn: Saves automatically to Pictures > Screenshots. This is helpful if you want a saved record right away.

Hope this helps reduce the extra steps and speed up your screenshot routine. Wishing you a smooth and productive experience with your Windows screenshot workflow. Thank you so much for your understanding.
