    Dear @Rashida Shafi,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how frustrating it is to be stuck when the system asks for approval from Microsoft Authenticator that you can no longer access.

Based on your description, this is happening because your university (educational) Microsoft account still has Microsoft Authenticator registered as the required security method. Since the account was removed from the Authenticator app, the sign‑in process is now asking you to approve a request that you’re unable to receive.

In this case, since you are using school or university‑managed account, I highly recommend you contact your school IT staff directly so that they may reset your MFA settings to your new mobile number. You might also ask whether your MFA can be temporarily disabled to allow an emergency sign-in.

For that reason, the school IT admin can Revoke MFA sessions and require re-registration in Microsoft Entra admin center

For more information and instruction, please ask the school IT Admin to follow the Microsoft Official Guide here: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID | Microsoft Learn

If you do not know who your school IT is admin, please refer to this Microsoft document here: Find the administrator for your work or school account

Note: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my role is to provide general guidance and troubleshooting support. I don’t have access to internal systems or backend tools to resolve backend/account issues. I appreciate your understanding of these limits.

I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction. Please try the steps above and let me know if they work. If not, we can continue working together to narrow this down.

The first response may not always resolve the issue right away, but with your help and more details, we can work toward a solution.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.

Since the Microsoft Authenticator account was removed and there is no way to approve the sign-in request in the app, the multi-factor authentication (MFA) settings for the educational account must be reset by the institution’s IT/admin team.

For a work or school (education) account, end users cannot bypass or reset Microsoft Authenticator themselves once it is the only configured method. The organization’s administrator must clear or reset the MFA registration so that sign-in can be completed using a new method or by re‑registering Authenticator.

    Actions to take:

    1. Contact the Allama Iqbal Open University IT/help desk or Microsoft 365/Entra administrator and explain:
      • The account is a university-provided Microsoft education account.
      • Microsoft Authenticator was removed from the device.
      • Now sign-in prompts for approval in Authenticator, but the app cannot be accessed.
      • Request an MFA reset / “Require re-register multifactor authentication” on the account.
    2. After the admin resets MFA, sign in again to the Microsoft account in a browser:
      • Use the university email and password.
      • When prompted to set up security, add Microsoft Authenticator again by following the QR code steps.

If the phone with Authenticator was lost or access to it was removed, the guidance for work/school accounts is to either sign in using a different method or ask the organization’s help desk to clear the MFA settings so registration can be done again.

Do not share personal email addresses or phone numbers publicly; provide them only directly to the university IT support if they request contact details.
