    Dear Saga

Thank you for your question and for sharing the details into Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I understand how inconvenient it is when the built-in camera suddenly stops working, especially when you need it for calls or meetings. Based on your message, the Camera app error 0xA00F4244 indicates that Windows cannot detect the camera device at the moment. At this point, I recommend that you review and try the steps provided in the AI generated answer on your thread. That reply typically include the most relevant checks for this scenario. To help narrow this down, could you please share a few details below?

    • Which Windows version are you using (Windows 10 or Windows 11), and did this start after a recent Windows update?
    • In Device Manager, do you see the camera under Cameras or Imaging devices? If yes, what is the exact camera name shown there?
    • Does your HP laptop have a webcam privacy switch / shutter key / privacy cover (camera icon key on the keyboard or a slider near the camera)?
    • Does the same error happen in other apps too (Teams/browser), or only in the Windows Camera app?

In the meantime, here are a few basic steps you can try:

    1. Check HP camera privacy controls
    • If your laptop has a privacy switch (side of the laptop or near the camera), toggle it to allow camera access.
    • If your keyboard has a webcam shutter key, press it once to re-enable the camera (some models require Fn + the shutter key).
    1. Rule out “camera in use” or camera lock by another app
    • Close all apps that may use the camera (Teams/browser tabs).
    • Open Task Manager and end tasks for those apps, then reboot and test again.
    1. Check antivirus / privacy software camera blocking
    • If you have third‑party antivirus/privacy software, open it and check for Webcam/Camera protection settings and allow Windows Camera/Teams.
    • Temporarily disable the webcam protection feature (if available), reboot, and re-test.
    1. Repair/Reset the Windows Camera app
    • Windows 11: Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Camera > Advanced options > Repair
    • Windows 10: Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Camera > Advanced options > Repair/Reset
    • If Repair doesn’t help, select Reset (note: Reset clears the app’s data/settings).
    1. Repair Windows system files
    • Open Command Prompt and run each as Administrator: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and sfc /scannow
    • Reboot after completion and test again.

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.

I hope the steps above help Windows detect your HP laptop’s built‑in camera again and clear the error. Wishing you a smooth experience getting the camera back up and running so you can return to video calls and everyday use without interruption.

Follow these steps in order to fix error 0xA00F4244 (NoCamerasAreAttached) on the built‑in camera.

    1. Check that Windows detects the camera
      1. Select Start > type Device Manager > open Device Manager.
      2. Expand Cameras, Imaging devices, or Sound, video and game controllers.
      3. Look for the laptop’s integrated camera.
      4. If it is missing, select Action > Scan for hardware changes, wait for the scan to complete, then restart the laptop and test the Camera app again.
    2. Make sure the camera is enabled
      1. In Device Manager, under Cameras (or the category where the camera appears), right‑click the camera.
      2. If Enable device is shown, select it to enable the camera.
      3. Restart and test the Camera app.
    3. Check Windows privacy settings for the camera
      1. Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera (Windows 10) or the equivalent Camera privacy page.
      2. Under Allow access to the camera on this device, select Change and turn Camera access for this device On.
      3. Ensure Allow apps to access your camera is On.
      4. If using desktop apps (browsers, Teams, etc.), ensure Let desktop apps access your camera is On.
    4. Update the camera driver via Windows Update
      1. Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      2. After checking, go to Advanced options > Optional updates.
      3. Install any driver updates for the camera.
      4. Restart the laptop and test the Camera app.
    5. Reinstall or roll back the camera driver
      1. Open Device Manager and locate the camera.
      2. Right‑click the camera > Properties > Driver tab.
      3. If available, select Roll Back Driver, confirm, then restart and test.
      4. If rollback is not available or does not help:
        • In Driver tab, select Uninstall Device.
        • Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device, select OK.
        • In Device Manager, select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
        • Let Windows reinstall the driver, restart, and test the Camera app.
    6. Try the generic USB Video Device driver
      1. In Device Manager, right‑click the camera > Properties > Driver tab.
      2. Select Update driver.
      3. Select Browse my computer for drivers.
      4. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
      5. Choose USB Video Device and select Next to install.
      6. After the success message, close the dialog, restart, and test.
    7. Install the HP‑specific camera driver
      1. In Device Manager, right‑click the camera > Properties > General tab.
      2. Note the Manufacturer and model/name.
      3. Go to HP’s support site for the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15‑dk1xxx and download the latest webcam/camera driver for the exact model and Windows version.
      4. Install the driver following HP’s instructions, restart, and test the Camera app.
    8. Run the Windows camera troubleshooter
      1. On Windows 10, open the Get Help app and run the Windows Camera troubleshooter (Run the troubleshooter in Get Help).
      2. Follow the automated steps and apply any fixes it suggests.

If the camera still shows 0xA00F4244 after all steps above, the integrated camera hardware or its connection inside the laptop may be faulty, and HP hardware service would be required.
