How to add office 3

Question

I have a microsoft account thru my outlook.com, I bought a computer for my husband, wanted to add the office 365 family plan to his computer, unable to. I just renewed my subscription to 365 in January. His devise is listed on microsoft account with my personal email and not the outlook email. I tried to invite him for office 365 thru his email, never received the information to download the program. What can I do.? Can I delete the personal email account?

You can sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services using the account that owns the subscription. Click Share Microsoft 365 and check if his email shows as Pending. If yes, resend the invite and ask him to check Spam or Junk. He must accept the invite while signed in with the same email address where you sent it.

After he accepts, he needs to sign in at the same Services page and click Install on his device. You do not need to delete any email account. You only need to make sure he signs in to Office using the account that accepted the Family share.

To use a Microsoft 365 Family subscription on a spouse’s computer, two things must happen:

1. The subscription must be a Family (or similar shareable) plan.
2. The subscription owner must successfully share it with the spouse’s Microsoft account, and the spouse must accept the invitation before installing.

Follow these steps:

1. Confirm the subscription type
   • Sign in with the account that pays for Microsoft 365 at the Microsoft account Services page.
   • Verify that the plan is Microsoft 365 Family (or another shareable home plan). If it is Microsoft 365 Basic, that plan does not include desktop Office apps and cannot be installed on PCs.
2. Share the subscription correctly
   • Sign in with the subscription owner’s account at the Microsoft account Sharing page: use the same account that was used to set up Microsoft 365 Family.
   • On the Sharing tab, select Start sharing.
   • Choose one of:
     • Invite via email: enter the husband’s Microsoft account email address and select Invite.
     • Invite via link: select Copy and send the link to the husband via email, text, etc.
   • The email address used for the invitation must be the same one that will be used for the shared Microsoft 365 subscription.
3. Have the husband accept the invitation
   • On his device, open the invitation email and select Accept.
   • Select Join now if prompted to join the family group.
   • If he does not have a Microsoft account, the flow will prompt to create one.
   • After accepting, select Start using Microsoft 365 apps, then Install, and follow the prompts to download and install Office on his computer.
4. Install Office from his own account
   • After accepting the share, he can also go to his own Microsoft account page and install the Office apps from there.

About deleting the “personal email account”:

• Deleting an email account is not required to use the Family subscription and is not part of the sharing/installation process.
• The key is that the subscription is shared to the correct Microsoft account and that the invitation is accepted. Once that is done, Office can be installed on his device regardless of which email address is associated with the device listing.

If the invitation email is not arriving, check spam/junk folders or resend the invite using Invite via link and have him open that link while signed into his Microsoft account.
