Because the email/account information is unknown, cancellation directly through Microsoft account pages is not possible. Microsoft cannot disclose or modify an account without being able to verify ownership.
Practical options are:
- Cancel via the payment method
- Contact the bank or card issuer that is being charged $179.
- Ask them to block or stop recurring payments to Microsoft for this subscription.
- This is the recommended route when the Microsoft account can’t be accessed or identified.
- Try to recover or identify the Microsoft account (if possible)
- Check old email inboxes (including spam/junk) for Microsoft 365 billing or “Services & subscriptions” emails. That can reveal which email address is tied to the subscription.
- If the account owner is deceased or otherwise unable to access the account, follow the legal process described in Microsoft’s guidance for accessing accounts in such situations. Once ownership is established, the subscription can be managed and cancelled like any other Microsoft 365 subscription.
If the account can eventually be accessed, the standard self-service cancellation steps are:
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the subscription.
- Under Services & subscriptions, find the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Select Manage.
- Select Cancel or Upgrade or Cancel, then follow the prompts to complete cancellation.
If there is no way to recover the account or verify ownership, working through the bank/credit card to stop future charges is the only realistic solution.
