Dear Team,

Please be advised that we purchased 5 Windows Server 2025 ROT Licenses and we need to get the equivalent product key to downgrade to Windows Server 2022, so please advise us with the process.

Thanks,

Amr Hossam

    Hello Amr Hossam,

Yes, you have downgrade rights, but Microsoft does not auto‑convert keys. You have to request the Windows Server 2022 product keys from your licensing portal or reseller and activate 2022 with those keys.

    Steps to follow

    1. Contact your CSP/reseller or check the Microsoft 365 portal where your keys are listed; ask them to provide the 2022 downgrade key tied to your 2025 entitlement.
    2. Install and activate Windows Server 2022 using the provided downgrade key. If you use KMS, ensure your KMS host has the correct key.

What to have ready when you contact them

    • Purchase order or license agreement number
    • Tenant ID or VLSC account details
    • Number of licenses and edition (Standard/Datacenter)

I hope you've found something useful here. If it helps you get more insight into the issue, it's appreciated to accept the answer. Should you have more questions, feel free to leave a message.

    Have a nice day!
