Account locked again immediately after successful recovery and password reset – cannot sign in to contact support

Hello,

I urgently need help from a Microsoft agent.

My Microsoft / Outlook account was successfully verified through the account recovery process. I received confirmation, reset my password, and completed all the required steps.

However, when I try to sign in with the new password, the account is immediately locked again on the first login attempt.

I am now stuck in a loop where I:

  • recover the account successfully

change the password

attempt to sign in

and the account is instantly locked again

I have also tried:

using a private/incognito browser

using a different device

ensuring I enter the correct password

But the account is still locked immediately.

The phone support line directs me back online, and the online support requires me to sign in — which I cannot do because the account is locked.

This appears to be a security lock loop, and I need a manual review and removal of the security block on my account.

Please can a Microsoft agent review this case and help me regain access to my account.

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Since you are unable to sign in despite a successful password reset, this indicates that your account is temporarily blocked due to unusual activity.

Kindly perform these steps to fix the verification method error:

    1. Perform a password reset via Incognito/InPrivate window using different devices and network services.
    2. If it doesn't work, wait exactly 48 hours to reset the password.
    3. If the issue persists, kindly wait exactly 1 week to perform another password reset. The idea is to wait for the account lock to expire first before you reset the password, as stated in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/troubleshooting-verification-code-issues-409090c4-92b5-42b9-8ae6-bcc97e62fc48#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did

Important: Please make sure not to attempt to sign in or reset the password within that timeframe (48 hours or 1 week), as this may reset the lock cooldown.

Thank you for your understanding! Please feel free to let me know if you need anything else.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

Account lock and recovery for consumer Microsoft/Outlook.com accounts is fully automated and cannot be manually overridden by agents or forum moderators.

For an Outlook.com or Microsoft account that is repeatedly locked right after recovery and password reset, the supported options are:

    1. Use the Sign-in Helper / online unlock flow
      • Go to the Sign-in Helper: Sign-in Helper.
      • Follow the prompts to verify identity and unlock the account.
      • If prompted for a security code, use any phone number that can receive SMS; it does not need to be previously associated with the account. The number is not stored and the code expires after 10 minutes.
      • If a "usage limit exceeded" or similar rate-limit message appears, stop trying and wait for the lockout window (typically about 24 hours) to expire before trying again. Repeated attempts can extend the lockout.
    2. If the account is locked due to suspicious activity or Terms of Use issues
      • When sign-in fails and no Next option appears, use the aka.ms/ link shown in the lock message window as described in “Microsoft account has been locked”.
      • Submit the requested information once and wait for the Microsoft Online Safety team to review it. Submitting multiple forms can slow down processing.
    3. If Outlook.com specifically is blocked
      • Use the same Sign-in Helper entry point from the Outlook.com unblock article: Sign-in Helper.
      • If unblocking still fails after entering the security code or changing the password, follow the guidance under When you can't sign in to your Microsoft account to work through password reset and recovery again.
    4. If sign-in still fails after recovery
    5. If all automated options are exhausted
      • Wait out any rate limits or temporary lockouts (typically ~24 hours) without further attempts.
      • Then retry using:
        • A familiar device and network (home or office) that has been used previously with the account.
        • The Account recovery form or Sign-in Helper, providing as much accurate historical information as possible.

Direct manual unlock or escalation by support agents is not available for consumer Microsoft accounts; all recovery and unlock decisions are made by the automated systems based on the information submitted.
