A Microsoft 365/Office product key becomes permanently tied to the Microsoft account used when it is redeemed. It cannot be moved to a different email address after redemption.
To continue using Office:
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that was used when the product key was redeemed:
- Go to the Subscriptions page and sign in with the email address you used by mistake.
- If the subscription or product appears there, that is now the correct account to use for installing and activating Office.
- Install or re-activate Office by signing into the Office apps with that same account instead of entering the product key again.
- If unsure which account was used:
- Try signing in with all personal email addresses at the Subscriptions page.
- The account where the Office product or Microsoft 365 subscription is listed is the one that must be used to activate Office.
- Do not try to redeem the same product key again:
- After a key is redeemed, Office is added to that Microsoft account and the key itself cannot be reused or moved to another account.
If access to the wrong email account is lost (for example, forgotten password), recover that Microsoft account first using Microsoft’s standard account recovery options, then use it to manage and activate Office.
