I have a windows 11 25h2 stuck in kiosk mode in vmware 25h2. I tried Ctrl + Alt + Del, but in a vm, Ctrl, Alt and all “F”s don’t work(or sometimes don’t function properly). I have very important data on the VM, so I can’t reset this VM. Someone PLEASE help me!!!

Assigned Access (kiosk) on Windows 11 is exited by a breakout key sequence handled by the OS, not by the app itself.

On Windows 11 kiosk (single‑app or multi‑app) the default way to exit the kiosk experience is:

    1. Send Ctrl+Alt+Del to the VM
      • In a physical session, pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del exits the kiosk app and shows the sign‑in screen.
      • In a VM, the same sequence must be sent through the hypervisor UI (for example, the VMware menu option that sends Ctrl+Alt+Del to the guest). Keyboard Ctrl+Alt+Del is often intercepted by the host, so use the VM menu/toolbar command instead of the physical keys.
    2. Wait for the kiosk to relaunch or sign in with another account
      • After Ctrl+Alt+Del, the kiosk app exits and the sign‑in screen appears.
      • If the Assigned Access account is used again, or the sign‑in screen times out, the kiosk app will relaunch automatically.
    3. If Ctrl+Alt+Del was remapped
      • Assigned Access supports changing the breakout sequence to another key combination via the configuration XML (for example, CTRL+ALT+A). If Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing, the kiosk configuration might be using a different breakout sequence.
      • In that case, use the VMware on‑screen keyboard or send the configured key combination from the hypervisor if known.

Because the data on the VM is important and a reset is not an option, the key step is to use the VMware UI feature that sends Ctrl+Alt+Del (or the configured breakout sequence) directly to the guest, rather than relying on the physical keyboard.

Next time if you need to press Ctrl + Alt + Del on VMware 25H2, just press Ctrl + Alt + Insert
