Note that there is no such switch in the New Outlook for Mac UI. Go to Outlook> Legacy Outlook in the menu bar to revert to Legacy Outlook or use Help> Legacy Outlook in the menu bar.

Oddly enough, the Legacy Outlook UI does have a toggle switch in its Title Bar for turning it off & returning to New Outlook.

Note that if you are using the Outlook 2024 version Legacy Outlook is not supported. Please see the table at the bottom of this Microsoft article:

End of support for legacy Outlook for Mac

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand how frustrating it can be when the new Outlook interface does not offer the familiar features you rely on and you simply want to return to the experience that works best for you. This situation usually happens because Microsoft has begun rolling out the new Outlook as the default Windows app, which can switch users automatically even if they prefer the classic version.

To resolve this, you can return to legacy Outlook by opening the new Outlook window and turning off the toggle labeled ‘Try the new Outlook,’ which immediately restores the classic desktop version if it is still installed on your device. If the toggle is not visible, you may need to reinstall Outlook from Microsoft 365 Apps or enable the classic version through your Windows Start menu. Some organizations also control this setting through admin policies, so checking with your IT administrator may help if you are using a work account.

Before we move forward, may I ask whether you are using Outlook with a personal Microsoft account or a work or school account, and do you see the toggle for switching back in the upper‑right corner of the Outlook window? I’m here to continue helping, so please feel free to follow up with what you see on your screen and I can guide you through the next steps.”

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

To return to legacy/classic Outlook, the steps depend on the platform and version.

Outlook for Mac (Microsoft 365 subscription)

    1. Open Outlook for Mac.
    2. Go to the Help menu.
    3. Select Revert to Legacy Outlook.

If you instead see a Legacy Outlook switch:

    1. Open Outlook for Mac.
    2. Turn off the Legacy Outlook switch to leave new Outlook; turn it on to use legacy.

Note: Accounts added in new Outlook for Mac are not automatically added in Legacy Outlook, and vice versa.

Legacy Outlook for Mac end of support note Legacy Outlook for Mac is being retired because it uses Exchange Web Services (EWS), which will be retired in Exchange Online on October 1, 2026. It is recommended to move to the new Outlook for Mac for better performance, security, and reliability.

Outlook 2024 for Mac (Office 2024 Home and Business) In Office 2024 Home and Business for Mac, the toggle to revert to legacy Outlook has been removed by design. Reverting to legacy Outlook is not available in this SKU; the recommendation is to use the new Outlook client and its updated features.

New Outlook for Windows vs classic Outlook On Windows, classic Outlook and new Outlook can be toggled and even run side-by-side, but that is a Windows scenario, not Mac. For Mac, use the Help menu or Legacy Outlook switch as described above, unless using Office 2024 Home and Business where the toggle is no longer provided.
