How to install windows 11 on computer.

Question

Windows Update does not let me install windows 11. I have updated bios settings + done windows health check. Everything is shows green and the pc is compatible with windows 11. Still its does not let me install it.

If your PC hardware is indicated as fully Windows 11 compatible.

The most successful method to upgrade to Windows 11 is to use the Windows 11 ISO.

You will need at least 40GB of free space on your C drive for the upgrade.

Please ensure you download the ISO in the same language as you use for the Windows UI, follow the steps, this is then not like re-installing Windows, it is just like an update and your personal files, settings and installed software will not be affected.

When the ISO file completes downloading

Disconnect from the Internet

Disconnect all external devices with the exception of a mouse or keyboard.

Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed

Then, in Windows File Explorer, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe and select the Install option.

Very Important - ensure you select the option to keep your files and apps.

Use an alternate supported upgrade method instead of waiting for Windows Update, since the PC is already reported as compatible.

1. Confirm compatibility and backup
   1. Ensure Windows 10 is version 2004 or later.
   2. Run PC Health Check again to confirm “This PC can run Windows 11.” For details, see How to use the PC Health Check app.
   3. Back up important files to external storage or cloud before upgrading.
2. Method 1 – Windows 11 Installation Assistant (simplest)
   1. Download Windows 11 Installation Assistant from: Windows 11 Installation Assistant.
   2. Run the tool as administrator.
   3. If the device meets requirements, choose Install Windows 11 and then Accept and install.
   4. When prompted, select Restart now. The PC will restart several times and then complete setup on the Windows sign-in screen.
   5. If the Assistant instead asks to run PC Health Check, run it, then click Refresh in the Assistant and proceed once it shows Windows 11 is available.
3. Method 2 – In‑place upgrade using Windows 11 installation media
   1. Create installation media following Create installation media for Windows.
   2. In the current Windows installation:
      1. Sign in to Windows.
      2. Insert the Windows 11 USB or mount the ISO.
      3. When prompted, choose Run setup.exe. If no prompt appears, open File Explorer > This PC, right‑click the installation media, and select Install or run program from your media.
      4. Approve User Account Control if asked.
      5. In Windows 11 Setup, follow the steps and choose to keep personal files and apps when offered.
      6. Continue the installation; the PC will restart multiple times and then boot into Windows 11.
4. Method 3 – Clean install from installation media (advanced)
   1. After creating Windows 11 installation media, shut down the PC.
   2. Insert the USB drive.
   3. Power on and open the boot menu (usually F1–F12 or Del, depending on the manufacturer).
   4. Select the Windows 11 USB media.
   5. Follow the setup wizard to install a fresh copy of Windows 11 (this can remove existing apps and data, so ensure backups are done first).

If Windows Update still does not offer Windows 11 even though the PC is compatible, using the Installation Assistant or installation media is the recommended way to complete the upgrade.
