Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand you are having problem with Classic Outlook for Windows not syncing your Gmail account and showing: Task – Sending’ reported error (0x80070057): Sorry, something went wrong. You may want to try again. Please follow these steps:
- Use Microsoft’s “Retry” sign-in fix if your Outlook build supports it
- This Gmail sign-in/permission problem is fixed starting with Current Channel Version 2412 (Build 18324.20168). On the fixed build, you can re-run the Google browser sign-in by selecting the “Retry” link shown in the Outlook error prompt, then complete the browser sign-in again.
- If “Retry” is not available or does not resolve it: remove Google’s stored permission for “Microsoft apps & services” (then re-authenticate). Please refer to: Manage connections between your Google Account & third parties
- Remove the existing Google permission so Outlook can request it again cleanly:
- Close Outlook.
- Sign in to Google (google.com) with the affected Gmail account.
- Go to Manage your Google Account > Security > Your connections to third-party apps & services > Microsoft apps & services.
- Select “Remove all access”, then confirm.
- Clear the saved Google IMAP OAuth tokens from Windows Credential Manager (forces a fresh token)
- Delete the stored OAuth credentials for the Gmail account:
- Open Windows Credential Manager.
- Go to Windows Credentials > Generic credentials.
- Find entries that start with “MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2” and include “tp_google_imap_Oauth2” (these are the Gmail OAuth credentials) and remove them.
- Then reopen Outlook and sign in again when prompted.
- Isolate profile corruption by creating a new Outlook profile
- To confirm whether the issue is tied to the current Outlook profile is to create a new profile and add the Gmail account there:
- Hold Shift while starting Outlook to open the profile picker, or run Outlook.exe /profiles, or use File > Account Settings > Change Profile.
- Create a new profile, then add the Gmail account and test send/receive.
- If mail is still not sending/receiving in classic Outlook after re-authentication steps, follow I can't send or receive messages in Outlook - Microsoft Support
