Cannot log in therefore cannot get any help from anyone

I purchased a Microsoft 365 Business and Microsoft 365 Copilot business order and received confirmation, but it is not allowing me to log in. Therefore I cannot get any help because that appears to be a prerequisite to everything on your site (which is terrible, by the way). I need to speak to a person to figure out how to get past this, or I'm going to cancel my subscription and use a different platform.

    Hi @Carol McElvain,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum, and I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble accessing your account.

When you create a tenant with Microsoft, you are automatically assigned a default domain in the format yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com. This domain is used during the initial setup and for administrative purposes, and it can also be used to sign in to access the products included in your subscription.

If you signed in using the account that was used for the purchase (rather than the onmicrosoft.com account), this could be a possible reason for the issue you’re experiencing. In this case, it may be helpful to review the original purchase confirmation email. Please consider searching across all email folders using keywords such as “Microsoft” or “onmicrosoft.com” to help locate it.

Once you locate your onmicrosoft account credentials, you may try signing in with that account to see whether the issue persists.

After you’re able to sign in successfully and would like to cancel the subscription, you can follow the guidance outlined in the following article on canceling a Microsoft business subscription through the Microsoft 365 admin center: Cancel your Microsoft business subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center | Microsoft Learn.

However, if you’re unable to access the admin center using those credentials, you can try reaching out to the Global Customer Service phone to raise a request here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support. This will allow you to connect with the Microsoft Billing team, who can review your order details and advise whether cancellation or refund options may be available, based on Microsoft’s policies and the timing of your purchase.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

I look forward to your thoughts on this.

Because sign-in is failing and access to in-product support is blocked, the fastest path is to contact Microsoft Support from outside the tenant and have an agent investigate the account and subscription status.

    Use one of these approaches:

    1. Use the public Contact Support entry point
      1. Go to Contact Microsoft Support: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/
      2. Do not sign in (or sign in only with an account that works, if available).
      3. Select the product area (for example, Microsoft 365) and describe the issue (for example, “Cannot sign in to newly purchased Microsoft 365 Business / Copilot Business – need account access help”).
      4. Choose Get Help, then when offered, choose Contact Support.
      5. Select a support option (chat or call) to reach a live agent.
    2. If this is a Microsoft 365 for business subscription and an admin exists
      • Only an admin can use the business support channels described in the admin documentation. If there is another admin on the tenant, that person can:
        1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
        2. Go to Help & support.
        3. Open a service request describing that a user (or admin) cannot sign in to a newly purchased subscription.
    3. If this is the only admin account and it cannot sign in
      • When the only admin is locked out, Microsoft’s Data Protection team must verify identity and restore access. To reach them when sign-in is blocked:
        1. Call the regional Customer service phone numbers for Microsoft (from the public Microsoft Support site) and follow the IVR prompts until connected to an agent.
        2. Clearly state that this is a Microsoft 365 for business account, that this is the only administrator, and that sign-in fails.
        3. Ask the frontline agent to open a ticket and route it to the Data Protection team for admin account recovery.
      • If phone support is difficult to reach, a workaround is:
        1. Create a new trial Microsoft 365 tenant (separate from the locked one) from the public Microsoft 365 plans page.
        2. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center with the trial tenant admin.
        3. Go to Support → Help & support and open a ticket explaining that access is needed to a different, existing tenant where the admin account cannot sign in.
        4. Provide the locked tenant’s domain and admin sign-in address and request Data Protection assistance.
        5. After resolution, cancel the trial subscription to avoid charges.
    4. If the issue is billing (for example, charged but cannot use the service)
      • If cancellation or refund is preferred instead of troubleshooting sign-in:
        1. Follow the steps in How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription to review cancellation and refund options.
        2. If self-service cancellation is not possible because sign-in fails, use Contact Microsoft Support as above and choose a Billing and payment support category so an agent can review the order and process cancellation or refund as applicable.

If the account in question is a work or school account issued by an organization (rather than a personal Microsoft account), contact the organization’s Microsoft 365 admin or internal help desk, as they control access and can open a support ticket on the user’s behalf.
