I've had my MS Word disabled along with a message saying "subscription cancelled" despite the 365 family subscription confirmed as being live. I want to be able to work on documents on my desktop. How do I fix this?

Do you see a notice within Word that it is unlicensed? Or what are the main symptoms?

Generally, you can find out the status of your subscription if you sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services.

Follow these steps to fix the “subscription canceled” / disabled Word issue when Microsoft 365 Family is confirmed active:

    1. Confirm the subscription is active
      1. Close all Office apps (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
      2. Go to the Microsoft account Subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services
      3. Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 Family subscription.
      4. Under the Microsoft 365 subscription, verify that the status shows as active and not expired or canceled.
    2. Make sure the correct account is used in Word
      1. Open Word.
      2. Go to File → Account.
      3. Under “User Information” / “Product Information”, check which account is signed in.
      4. If it is not the same account that has the active subscription, sign out from there.
      5. Click “Sign in” or “Update license”, and sign in with the account that has the active Microsoft 365 Family subscription.
      6. Close Word and reopen it to see if the “subscription canceled” message is gone.
    3. Refresh activation using the activation troubleshooter (if still not working)
      1. Close all Office apps.
      2. Run the Microsoft 365 activation troubleshooter from the same Windows PC where Office is installed: use the “Start” button in the Microsoft 365 activation troubleshooter section here: Unlicensed Product and activation errors in Office.
      3. Follow the prompts to fix activation.
    4. Check for “Product deactivated” and reactivate If Word shows a “Product deactivated” banner:
      1. Click the Reactivate button on the banner and sign in with the account that has the active subscription.
      2. If that fails, sign out of all Microsoft 365 apps, close them, reopen Word, and sign in again with the correct account.
    5. If you recently renewed or bought Microsoft 365
      1. If the subscription was renewed using a product key or a boxed card, make sure the key has been redeemed on the Microsoft account.
      2. Confirm the renewal status and expiration date on the Subscriptions page. If the date does not look correct, contact Microsoft Support from the link in the subscription help article.

If after these steps Word still shows “subscription canceled” even though the subscription is active and the correct account is signed in, contact Microsoft Support or, if using a work/school account, the Microsoft 365 admin/IT department.
