I have been trying to install Microsoft 365 on 2 window devices and it seems it wont complete.

These devices are registered within Azure

Wondering if something with Azure was keeping me from doing this.

    Hi @Douglas Smith,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

To help narrow down what’s preventing Microsoft 365 from installing, could you please clarify the following:

    1. Which Microsoft 365 license is assigned to the user (for example, Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, E3/E5)?
    2. Are you installing Microsoft 365 from https://portal.office.com or via another deployment method (Intune, Company Portal, offline installer)?
    3. Are the devices Azure AD registered, Azure AD joined, or Hybrid Azure AD joined?
    4. Are these devices managed by Intune, and if so, are there any app or device restriction policies applied?
    5. Do you receive any error message or error code during the install, or does it simply stop without completing?
    6. Does the installation fail on both devices in the same way, or does the behavior differ?
    7. Are there any Conditional Access policies in your tenant that require compliant or managed devices for Office 365 access?
    8. Is the user signed in as a local administrator on the affected Windows devices?
    9. Does this happen only to these two devices only or every other devices in your organization?

These details will help determine whether the issue is related to licensing, device join state, Conditional Access, or Intune restrictions, and point us to the correct resolution path. Please feel free to share any additional details you believe are relevant. Screenshots are especially helpful and much appreciated.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

Use the following checks and steps on each Windows device to identify why Microsoft 365 won’t complete installation. Azure registration alone does not block installation; issues are usually on the device (OS support, connectivity, permissions, or security software).

    1. Confirm the device can run Microsoft 365
    • Verify the Windows version is supported for Microsoft 365. Unsupported systems (for example, Windows Vista or Windows XP) cannot install Microsoft 365.
    • If the OS is unsupported, use the free Microsoft 365 apps in a browser instead.
    1. Install Microsoft 365 using the standard method On each Windows device:
    2. Sign in with the work account that has the Microsoft 365 license at the Microsoft 365 Apps page.
    3. In the upper-right corner, select Install apps > Microsoft 365 apps.
    4. On the My account page, under Office apps & devices, select Install Office.
    5. Allow OfficeSetup.exe to download, then run it from the Downloads folder.
    6. When prompted with Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?, choose Yes and let the installation complete.
    7. If the Install button does nothing or the setup never starts
    • If the Install button is greyed out, the subscription may be expired and must be renewed before installation.
    • If clicking Install appears to do nothing:
      • Try Option 1: After clicking Install, look for a Run (or equivalent) button at the bottom of the browser window and select it to start the installer.
      • Try Option 2: Open a New InPrivate/Incognito window, go to https://m365.cloud.microsoft/apps, sign in with the work account, and select Install again.
    1. If installation is slow or appears stuck
    • Restart the computer, then check whether Microsoft 365 actually installed by looking for apps like Word or Excel in the Start menu.
    • If not installed, try again using a wired network connection to avoid Wi‑Fi issues.
    • If the connection is slow or unstable, use the offline installer as described in Use the Office offline installer.
    1. If an error code appears during installation
    • If an error message includes a Learn More link, select it to get specific troubleshooting steps for that error.
    • If the error indicates an unsupported operating system, verify that you are not:
      • Installing the Mac version of Microsoft 365 on a PC, or
      • Installing on an unsupported device type (for example, Chromebook).
    1. If installation fails with a PowerShell-related access error
    • If the error message is similar to “Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file” and references PowerShell.exe, then:
      • Check whether PowerShell is blocked by policy or security software on these Azure-registered devices.
      • Temporarily enable access to PowerShell.exe (requires admin rights), retry the Microsoft 365 installation, and then reapply the restriction after installation completes.
    1. If installation still cannot complete
    • Restart the device and attempt the install again from the Microsoft 365 portal.
    • If it still fails, capture the exact error code or message shown during installation; that code will map to specific troubleshooting guidance in the Microsoft 365 install/repair articles.

Azure registration by itself does not prevent Microsoft 365 installation. Focus on OS support, subscription status, browser/installer behavior, connectivity, and any security or policy restrictions (especially around PowerShell) on those devices.
