Hi Ken, it is not clear what you mean. You can only use a Microsoft Account to redeem Microsoft 365 Family. You can use a Gmail account to create a Microsoft Account. You Microsoft should/must be associated with the Microsoft Account at Services & Subscriptions. Try signing in here: https://account.microsoft.com/services with your Microsoft Account. You can manage your Microsoft 365 Family from there.

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand how confusing it is to purchase Microsoft 365 Family, receive the verification email at the correct Gmail address, and then discover that the subscription does not appear when you sign in to your Microsoft account.

This usually happens when the subscription was activated using a different Microsoft account than the one you are currently signing into, or when the purchase was completed under a guest session without linking it to your permanent Microsoft profile, which prevents the subscription from appearing on your Services & Subscriptions page. The best resolution is to sign in at account.microsoft.com using the exact Microsoft account that was shown during checkout and check the Services & Subscriptions section, or search your email for the “You’re all set” activation message to confirm which account the license was assigned to; once you locate the correct login, the subscription will appear automatically and you can begin installing Office or sharing the plan.

May I ask whether you used your Gmail address as the actual Microsoft account username, or if you have multiple Microsoft accounts that may have been signed in during the purchase? Please let me know what you find, and I’ll be happy to help you move forward.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

The Microsoft 365 Family subscription is only linked to the Microsoft account that was used to redeem/activate the purchase, not to the email address that received the store receipt.

Common reasons it does not appear under the expected Microsoft account:

    1. The product key has not been redeemed yet
      • If Microsoft 365 Family was bought from a physical or online retailer, the purchase email or packaging includes a product key.
      • The subscription is not linked to any account until that key is redeemed.
      • During redemption, the site asks to sign in with a Microsoft account (this can be different from the Gmail address that received the receipt).
    2. It was redeemed under a different Microsoft account
      • If the key was already redeemed while signed in with another Microsoft account (for example, another Outlook/Hotmail address or a different Gmail-based Microsoft account), the subscription will be associated with that other account.
      • Signing in with the Gmail address that only received the receipt will then show no license.

    To check and fix:

    1. Confirm which Microsoft account has the license
      • Sign in to the Microsoft account portal for each Microsoft account that might have been used and check Services & subscriptions. The account that shows Microsoft 365 Family is the one the subscription is linked to.
    2. If the key is not yet redeemed
      • Use the product key from the email/packaging and follow the “Redeem a product key to activate Microsoft 365 or Office” flow.
      • When prompted, sign in with the Microsoft account that should own the subscription.
    3. If someone else redeemed or installed it for you
      • If another person installed Microsoft 365 and used their own Microsoft account during redemption, the subscription is associated with their account. In that case, contact support with proof of purchase to correct the association.

Once the subscription is correctly associated with the intended Microsoft account, signing in with that account in Office apps and at microsoft365.com will show Microsoft 365 Family.
