Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

How did you first verify your identity when resetting your password?

Were you not given the option to receive a verification code to your registered phone number or an alternate email address when resetting your password?

Because if you no longer have access to any of your security contact methods to verify your identity, you won’t be able to reset your password directly. In that case, you’ll first need to update your security information by selecting "I don’t have any of these" on the verification screen, and then follow the prompts to replace your security info. For reference, please see the screenshot here:

Note - If you remove all of your previous security information and replace it with something new, your account will be put into a restricted state for 30 days.

Because the password is already reset but sign-in still requires a code sent to an email that cannot be accessed, the next step is to update or recover the security info on the Microsoft account.

Follow the path that matches the situation:

    1. If the password is known but only some security info is inaccessible
      1. Go to the Advanced security options page and sign in with the recovered password: Sign in.
      2. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify and add a new email address or phone number that can be accessed.
      3. Enter the code sent to that new method and select Next.
      4. Expand the old email method that cannot be opened and select Remove, then confirm.
      5. Use the new method for future verification codes.
    2. If the password is known but all security info (emails/phones) is inaccessible
      1. Start signing in at Sign in.
      2. When prompted to verify identity, choose I don't have any of these.
      3. Follow the instructions to replace the security info.
      4. After replacement, there is a 30‑day wait before normal sign-in is allowed. During this period, if the old security info becomes available again, it can still be used to sign in, but doing so cancels the update.
    3. If the password is forgotten and no security info is accessible
      1. Read the guidance at Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.
      2. Submit the recovery request via the account recovery form: Recover account.
      3. Provide as much accurate information as possible; Microsoft reviews and responds, typically within 24 hours.
    4. If verification codes are still not received
      1. Review the troubleshooting guidance for verification codes: Troubleshoot Microsoft verification code issues.
      2. If still unable to sign in, use the Sign-in Helper tool, which can detect common account problems and guide through recovery: Sign-in Helper.

For direct support, a support agent cannot bypass verification or change security info, but a case can be opened:

    1. Go to Contact Microsoft Support: Contact Microsoft Support.
    2. Enter a description such as “account recovery” or “can’t receive verification code” and select Get Help.
    3. Scroll down and choose Contact Support to see available options (chat or callback, depending on region and subscription).
