My surface pro is not charging. I had shut it down more than twice yet it doesn't charge still.

Please help. Thank you.

    Does the LED light work?

    No LED > Faulty charger

LED ON but no charging Battery or motherboard issue.

Plug into a different wall socket. Inspect the Charging Port.

Press and hold Power button for 30 seconds

    Release

    Wait 10 seconds

Press and hold Power + Volume Up together for 15 seconds

    Release and wait 10 seconds

    Turn it ON normally

    Then plug charger again.

Try USB-C Charging if your device supports, (Surface Pro models from the Pro 7 onwards).

Work through these steps in order.

    1. Basic checks
    • Try a different wall outlet.
    • Make sure all cable connections are fully seated at the wall, power brick, and Surface.
    • If the Surface power supply has a USB charging port, unplug anything connected to that USB port.
    • Use a genuine Surface power supply that meets the charging requirements for the Surface Pro model.
    • Disconnect high‑power accessories (USB drives, external monitors, docks) and see if charging starts.
    1. Check the LED on the Surface charger
    • Plug the connector into the Surface Connect port and look at the LED on the charger:
      • If it is off: reseat the connector, try another outlet, and follow the steps in What to do if your Surface power supply or charger doesn’t work.
      • If it is blinking/flashing white: unplug from Surface, inspect and clean the connector, then reconnect. If it still flashes, follow the same article’s steps.
      • If it is solid white but the Surface still is not charging, continue with the next steps.
    1. Check the battery icon status in Windows Turn the Surface on (if possible), then look at the battery icon on the right side of the taskbar and note what it shows:
    • Plugged in, not charging:
      • Confirm the correct Surface power supply is being used.
      • Disconnect power‑hungry accessories.
      • On non‑Arm Surface Pro models, remove and reinstall the battery driver:
        1. Plug in the Surface.
        2. Open Device Manager.
        3. Expand Batteries.
        4. Right‑click Microsoft Surface ACPI‑Compliant Control Method Battery or Surface Battery and select Uninstall device.
        5. In Device Manager, select the computer at the top, then Action > Scan for hardware changes.
        6. Restart Windows.
    • Battery not detected (red X) and the Surface turns off when unplugged:
    • Not plugged in even though the charger is connected and the LED is on:
      • Unplug the Surface Connect connector, flip it 180 degrees, and plug it back in firmly.
      • Wait about 10 minutes and check if charging starts.
    • Plugged in, charging but won’t go past 80% or 50%:
      • Smart charging (80%) or Battery Limit (50%) may be enabled. See the linked guidance on smart charging and Battery Limit in the article.
    1. Force a restart If Windows is running but charging is stuck or behaving oddly:
    2. Select Start > Power > Shut down and wait for it to power off.
    3. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. If the logo appears, keep holding until it appears a second time.
    4. Release the button and start the Surface normally, then recheck charging.
    5. Use the Surface app (if it will power on)
    • Open the Surface app.
    • Expand Help & support and select Check for updates to open Windows Update and install all available updates.
    • In Help & support, select Get help and follow the guidance if any issues are detected.
    1. If it still will not charge If none of the above resolves the issue, arrange service:
    • For a possible faulty power supply, follow the service steps in the power‑supply article.
    • For a Surface hardware/battery issue, follow If your Surface still won’t charge, submit a service order in the battery article to send the device to Microsoft, find an in‑person service center, or review self‑repair options if technically experienced.
