The mailbox language change and blackmail-style drafts strongly indicate the Outlook.com account has been compromised. Direct phone support cannot bypass Microsoft’s automated security, so recovery must follow the official self-service paths.

    Follow these steps in order:

    1. Use the Sign-in Helper for hacked/blocked accounts
    • Go to the Sign-in Helper: Sign-in Helper.
    • Enter the Outlook/Hotmail address and follow the prompts for a hacked or blocked account.
    • If asked, use an alternate email or phone number where Microsoft can contact you.
    1. If completely locked out or recovery keeps failing
    • Use the Microsoft account recovery form (ACSR) from a device and location normally used to sign in.
    • Provide as much accurate detail as possible (old passwords, contacts, subject lines, etc.).
    • If you hit “too many attempts” or daily limits, stop trying and wait for the lockout period (typically about 24 hours) before trying again. Repeated attempts can extend the lockout.
    • If the form or code submission shows a “temporary problem with the service,” wait and retry later; this is the only supported path for consumer accounts.
    1. Once access is regained, secure the account Immediately after signing back in:
    1. Change password
    • Set a strong, unique password not used on any other site.
    1. Turn on two-step verification (MFA)
    • Add a mobile phone and alternate email as security info so recovery is easier in future.
    1. Check for ongoing hacker control In Outlook.com (web):
    • Settings → Mail → Rules: delete any suspicious rules (for example, ones that auto-create drafts or forward mail).
    • Settings → Mail → Forwarding: remove any unknown forwarding addresses.
    • Review add-ins and connected apps; remove anything not recognized.
    1. Review recent activity and sign out everywhere
    • Go to the recent activity page: https://account.live.com/activity to see where and when the account was accessed.
    • If unfamiliar sign-ins appear, use the options there to secure the account and sign out of all sessions.
    1. Protect devices and contacts
    • Run a full antivirus scan on every device used to access the account.
    • Consider resetting any device that shows signs of compromise.
    • From another trusted email or messaging method, warn contacts that the Outlook address was hacked and they should ignore suspicious messages from it.
    1. If self-help paths still fail

There is no supported way for community moderators or general support lines to manually override these automated security checks for personal Outlook.com/Hotmail accounts; only the official recovery and Sign-in Helper flows can restore access.
