So it all started with having to log into my SPECTRUM account and determine my modem password (upgrading from an android to an iPhone). Since I changed my SPECTRUM password, now my OUTLOOK doesn't "sync" with SPECTRUM. SPECTRUM has a system as you cannot use any of the five previous passwords so today I changed it six times so I could put my original password in. I thought that would fix the issue. But no. So I have restarted OUTLOOK a couple of times. And when I try to launch/open OUTLOOK all it does is sit there with "LOADING PROFILE" on the bottom left of the blue window. I know my email is :working" as I can go into my SPECTRUM account and read my emails there. It just not communicating / sync'ing with my OUTLOOK. Any thought? THANKS!

    Hi Randy Gryczkowski,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

Since webmail works but Classic Outlook hangs at "Loading Profile," Outlook is likely stuck initializing the local profile, often due to saved/old credentials after a password change, an add-in conflict, or a corrupted profile.

    Please try these in order:

    1. End Outlook fully: Close Outlook > open Task Manager > end OUTLOOK.EXE (and any other Office apps still running).
    2. Safe Mode test: Press Win+R, type outlook.exe /safe, and press Enter. • If Outlook opens, an add-in may be causing the hang. Go to File > Options > Add-ins > COM Add-ins > Go…, uncheck all, and restart Outlook. You can re-enable them one by one later to identify the culprit.
    3. Clear saved passwords: Open Control Panel > Credential Manager > Windows Credentials, then remove any entries related to Outlook, Office, IMAP, or Spectrum. Reopen Outlook and re-enter your current password when prompted.
    4. Create a new Outlook profile: Go to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles > Add…, enter a new profile name, and set it as default (or select Prompt for a profile to be used to choose at launch). When re-adding the account, confirm Spectrum's IMAP settings: incoming server (IMAP + SSL, port 993); outgoing server (SMTP, port 587 with authentication).

If you let me know whether Safe Mode opens and whether the account is IMAP or POP, I can point you to the most effective next step.

Please let me know if this proves useful to you, or if you would like further assistance.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

Outlook hanging at “Loading profile” is a known issue in classic Outlook for Windows and is usually unrelated to the mail provider password itself. Use these steps to get Outlook to open again, then re‑establish the Spectrum account connection if needed.

    1. End all Office/Outlook processes
      1. Right‑click the Windows taskbar and select Task Manager.
      2. On the Processes tab, find all Office and Outlook processes.
      3. Select each Office/Outlook process and choose End task.
      4. Close Task Manager and try starting Outlook again.
    2. Disable presence features in Outlook (to prevent the hang) Once Outlook opens:
      1. Select File > Options > People.
      2. Clear these check boxes if they are enabled:
        • Display online status next to name
        • Show user photographs when available
      3. Select OK, then restart Outlook.
Disabling these presence features mitigates the “Loading profile” hang that occurs in some builds.
    3. If Outlook still won’t open: create a new Outlook profile If the loading profile issue persists, create a fresh profile (this does not delete mail on the server):
      1. Close Outlook.
      2. Open Control Panel.
      3. Go to User Accounts > Mail > Show Profiles.
      4. Select Add, enter a new Profile Name, and choose OK.
      5. Add the Spectrum email account in the wizard (using the current Spectrum password).
      6. In Show Profiles, select Prompt for a profile to be used or set the new profile as default.
      7. Start Outlook and choose the new profile.
If the new profile works, return to Show Profiles later and delete the old profile.
    4. Repair the Outlook profile if connection issues remain If Outlook opens but does not sync with Spectrum correctly:
      1. In Outlook, select File.
      2. Select Account Settings > Account Settings.
      3. On the Email tab, select the Spectrum account and choose Repair.
      4. Follow the wizard and restart Outlook.

These steps address both the “Loading profile” hang and potential profile corruption that can appear after password or account changes.
