A family of Microsoft presentation graphics products that offer tools for creating presentations and adding graphic effects like multimedia objects and special effects with text.
Copilot in PowerPoint is only available when the account and license meet specific requirements. Being a student does not automatically grant access to Copilot slide-generation features.
For Copilot to generate slides in PowerPoint:
- A work or school account with a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription and a Copilot add-on (and, for some creation features, a Microsoft Designer license) is required.
- Copilot in PowerPoint only works with PowerPoint files and needs an internet connection.
- Some creation features such as “Create a presentation about a specific topic” or “Create a presentation from a file” additionally require a Designer license.
If the Copilot button is missing or grayed out in PowerPoint on the Mac used for studies, the school account likely does not have the required Copilot and/or Designer licenses assigned. In that case, the school’s IT/admin must confirm:
- Whether the EFP tenant has Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses.
- Whether a Copilot license (and, if needed, Designer) is assigned to the student account.
Without those licenses, Copilot cannot be used to generate slides, but PowerPoint itself remains available as part of the normal Microsoft 365 Education offering.
