Quick Response Mode Missing in Copilot

Hi,

I noticed Quick Response mode has completely disappeared from Copilot, and have seen many other users report the same issue starting January 2026 on MS Q&A site.

I also read that Microsoft is pushing a new Smart Mode, which changes how responses work and may be replacing older models.

The Quick Response mode fit my workflow far better than Think Deeper and Smart does.

Since it disappeared, and the introduction of Smart Mode, I have constantly run into issues because now the app is making it's own decisions and interpretations of subjects and projects which is extremely frustrating because it's 2 steps forward and 2 steps back.

Taking away the ability to choose which mode a user prefers, and leaving it up to the bot, is taking away personal preference and what works for individuals needs.

Quick Response was added during the GPT-5 update in 2025, so I don't understand why it suddenly vanished.

Can someone please explain what's happening and whether QR is coming back, as this mode is something I need due to limited time and needing to finish projects.

Please and thank you.

    Hello Becky Fernandez!

Thank you so much for reporting this issue on the Q&A forum and I'm sorry you’re losing the mode that works best for you.

I understand how important Quick Response is to your workflow. At this time, however, there has been no official announcement confirming whether Quick Response will be restored as a separate mode although Quick Response is still listed in Conversation modes in Microsoft Copilot

In parallel, Microsoft has introduced Smart mode, which is designed to automatically choose appropriate response style for each query (whether to respond quickly or use deeper reasoning) based on the prompt rather than requiring users to manually select a model or mode.

Workaround: You can still guide Copilot’s response style explicitly by including instructions such as:

    “Keep it short and direct”

    “One‑sentence answer”

    “Answer briefly, no extra explanation”

In many cases, this produces results similar to what Quick Response previously provided.

Finally, I recommend sharing your feedback through Copilot > “…” (More options) > Send feedback. This helps ensure your input reaches the engineering team and increases the chance that Quick Response or a similar user‑controlled option may be reconsidered in future updates.

If any new updates on this behavior become available, I’ll make sure to share them here.

Thank you so much for your time and apologies for any inconvenience you've experienced!

    Best regards.
