OneDrive Foto Album download

Question

Hi

I want to download a Foto Album.

After selecting all the Pictures(around 500-1000) in the Album, I download the Zip File.

There are always serveral Pictures(50-100) missing from the Zip File.

Tried different browsers. different Albums.

A good option to circumvent this issue is to use OneDrive Desktop to download the pictures or download from the browser in smaller batches (100).

When downloading a OneDrive photo album as a .zip, not all items are always included because of how bulk downloads are limited and packaged on the service.

From the documented behavior for OneDrive/SharePoint downloads:

• Bulk downloads are constrained by these limits:
  • Maximum 250 GB per individual file.
  • Maximum 10,000 files per download.
  • Maximum 10,000 files per folder.
  • When downloading multiple compressed files (such as .zip files or .mp4), there is a 10 GB per .zip limit and 20 GB overall.
• Additionally, files encrypted by sensitivity labels or IRM that are larger than 4 MB are not included in the downloaded .zip and must be downloaded separately.

Even with 500–1000 photos, missing items in the .zip can be caused by:

1. Some photos being protected with sensitivity labels/IRM and over 4 MB, so they are automatically excluded from the bulk .zip.
2. The total size of the selected photos causing the generated .zip to hit internal size limits, leading to some files being left out.

To reduce or avoid missing photos in the album download:

1. Download in smaller groups of photos (for example, 100–200 at a time) so each .zip is comfortably within the size limits.
2. Identify any photos that are protected with sensitivity labels/IRM and larger than 4 MB, and download those individually instead of as part of the bulk selection.
3. After each batch download, compare the number of files in the .zip with the number selected in OneDrive to verify that all expected photos were included.

If album downloads continue to omit files even in small batches, using the OneDrive sync client to sync the Pictures/album folder to the PC and copying files locally avoids the web-based .zip packaging limits.
