    Hi Hamadi Bellachi,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

If Microsoft Edge opens an extra tab when you click just once, a few quick adjustments usually restore normal behavior. In addition to Q&A Assist's answer, you can try these possible options to get Microsoft Edge back to normal:

    1, Reset Edge settings

    • Open Microsoft Edge
    • Select Settings (three dots > Settings)
    • Go to Reset settings
    • Choose Restore settings to their default values

2, Check startup and new tab settings

    • Go to Settings > Start, home, and new tab
    • Under When Edge starts, select Open the new tab page
    • Remove any additional pages listed

    3, Disable extensions

    • Open Settings > Extensions
    • Turn off all extensions
    • Restart Edge and test
    • Re‑enable extensions one at a time if needed

    4, Repair Microsoft Edge

    • Open Windows Settings > Apps
    • Select Microsoft Edge
    • Choose Modify > Repair

If the issue persists, please check for mouse / double‑click behavior

    • Try pressing Ctrl + T
    • If it opens only one tab, Edge itself is fine
    • Try clicking with another mouse (if available) to rule out hardware issues.

To get Microsoft Edge back to “normal” and stop extra tabs from opening, try these steps:

    1. Reset Edge settings
      1. Open Edge.
      2. Select Settings and more (the in the top-right) > Settings.
      3. Go to Reset settings.
      4. Select Restore settings to their default values and confirm.
This often fixes issues where extra tabs or unwanted pages open.
    2. Check extensions that may open tabs
      1. In Edge, go to Settings and more > Extensions.
      2. Turn off or remove any extensions that are not needed or that were recently installed.
      3. If the problem stops after turning one off, that extension was causing the extra tab behavior.
    3. Set what opens on startup
      1. Go to Settings and more > Settings.
      2. Select Start, home, and new tab page (or On startup depending on the page shown).
      3. Choose Open a new tab or Open a specific page or pages and set only the page that should open.
    4. Adjust the new tab page behavior
      1. Open a new tab by selecting the + button at the top.
      2. At the top-right of the new tab page, select Page Settings or Settings.
      3. Choose the layout and content wanted, or turn off extra feed content if it feels slow.

If a single click on the Edge icon opens two windows or two tabs, resetting settings and disabling extensions usually resolves it. If the problem continues, scan the device for malware and then try again.
