To stop future charges and regain access, the only supported options are:
- Try to regain access to the Microsoft account
- Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page and use Forgot my password or the Sign-in Helper tool: Sign-in Helper.
- If the phone/email verification options shown are not yours, follow the guidance in Help with the Microsoft account recovery form and submit the recovery form with as much accurate information as possible: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.
- Use a working email address that can receive messages so Microsoft can contact about the recovery request.
- If locked out due to too many attempts
- Microsoft may temporarily lock the account after many failed sign-ins or recovery attempts. In that case, wait at least 24 hours without any further attempts, then try again using the recovery form or Sign-in Helper from a familiar device and network.
- If the account is blocked or locked for suspicious activity
- If the account is locked (for example, no Next button or similar lock message), follow the instructions in the lock message (often an aka.ms/ link) to submit the account reinstatement form. A Microsoft Online Safety agent will review and contact by email. Do not submit multiple forms, as this can slow the process.
- If the account is an Outlook.com/Microsoft consumer account
- Use the Sign-in Helper to try to unblock the Outlook.com account: Sign-in Helper.
- If unblocking fails, follow the guidance under When you can't sign in to your Microsoft account from the Outlook.com unblock article.
- If this is a business/tenant (work or school) account created for the Power Apps trial
- If this tenant has only one global admin (the account that was created with the trial) and that admin is locked out, the Microsoft Data Protection team must assist.
- Contact Microsoft support for business products as described in Solve account access problems. If part of the tenant, another global admin can reset the password; if not, a colleague in the tenant must contact the Microsoft 365 Data Protection team.
- If no recovery options work
- For consumer Microsoft accounts, if two-step verification was enabled and none of the verification methods are accessible, support agents cannot override security or send reset links. In that case, the account cannot be recovered and any associated subscriptions will eventually lapse when payment fails.
- If verification options are wrong and two-step verification is not enabled, continue using the Sign-in Helper and account recovery form as the only supported path.
To minimize risk of charges while locked out:
- Do not update payment details anywhere else for this same account.
- If the card is at risk, contact the card issuer to discuss blocking or replacing the card or disputing unwanted charges; Microsoft support cannot do this from within the sign-in troubleshooting flow.
