    Hi Michael Mickendrow

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand how frustrating this is, especially right after buying Office 2024.

Could you confirm whether you’ve tried the steps mentioned in the Q&A Assist reply under your post? If yes, did you face any difficulties with those steps?

In the meantime, please try the following:

    1. Confirm whether the mailbox works on the server

Sign in to Outlook on the web and see if you can send/receive there.

    • If webmail works, the issue is only in the Outlook desktop app (credentials/profile).
    • If webmail also fails, it’s an account/mailbox issue (storage, block, etc.)

    2. Check mailbox storage

If your storage is full, Outlook won’t send or receive. Check storage (Settings > Account > Storage) and free up space if needed.

    3. Force Restart Outlook

    • Close Outlook completely
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, find "Outlook" in the list, right-click it, and select End Task to ensure no background processes are still running. Or restart Windows first, then open Outlook.

    4. Test Outlook in Safe Mode (rules out add-ins)

    • Close Outlook completely
    • Press Windows + R > type: outlook.exe /safe > press Enter
    • If it's stable in Safe Mode, an add-in is the likely trigger. In that case, disable add-ins in normal mode and re-enable them one by one.
      • Go to File > Options > Add‑ins > Manage: COM Add‑ins > Go…
      • Uncheck all unnecessary add‑ins, restart Outlook and re-enable one by one to find the culprit.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Try these steps in order for Outlook 2024 on Windows when email won’t send or receive after a password change:

    1. Confirm the password works on the provider’s website
First, sign in directly to the email provider’s webmail (for example Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo, or your company’s webmail). If sign-in fails there, reset the password with the provider and complete any required security checks. Only continue once web sign-in works.
    2. Update the password in Outlook 2024
Changing the password with the provider is not enough; Outlook must be updated to use the new password.
      • In Outlook 2024, go to File → Account Settings → Account Settings.
      • Select the email account and choose Change or Repair.
      • Enter the new password when prompted and complete the test. If using the new Outlook experience, see the steps under Have you changed your password recently? in the Outlook article: select the icon next to the email account name, choose Continue, and sign in with the new password.
    3. If prompted for an app password
If Outlook shows a message like “Please create an app password for Outlook on your email provider's site”:
      • Go to the email provider’s security settings and generate an app password for email apps.
      • Copy that app password and paste it into Outlook when asked for the account password.
    4. Check for storage or account blocks (Outlook.com / Microsoft account)
If this is an Outlook.com/Microsoft account:
      • Verify that Microsoft cloud storage is not full; if it is, sending and receiving will stop until space is freed.
      • If there has been unusual sign-in activity, the account may be temporarily blocked; follow the guidance to unblock your Outlook.com account and ensure the password is updated everywhere.
    5. Repair Outlook profile (if still not sending/receiving)
If messages are stuck in the Outbox or nothing arrives even after updating the password:
      • Use the Repair option for the account, or create/repair the Outlook profile as described in the Outlook troubleshooting article.
    6. Start Outlook in Safe Mode to rule out add-ins
      Some add-ins can block sending:
      • Press the Windows key, type outlook.exe /safe, and press Enter.
      • If email works in Safe Mode, disable or remove problematic add-ins and, if needed, create a new Outlook profile.
    7. Check antivirus email scanning
Some antivirus tools block email after detecting a threat. If email suddenly stopped, check the antivirus software’s email protection section or contact its help desk to confirm it is not blocking Outlook.

If, after these steps, Outlook 2024 still cannot send or receive mail, use the Troubleshooting Outlook issues guidance from the Outlook support article for deeper diagnostics.
