Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand how frustrating this is, especially right after buying Office 2024.
Could you confirm whether you’ve tried the steps mentioned in the Q&A Assist reply under your post? If yes, did you face any difficulties with those steps?
In the meantime, please try the following:
1. Confirm whether the mailbox works on the server
Sign in to Outlook on the web and see if you can send/receive there.
- If webmail works, the issue is only in the Outlook desktop app (credentials/profile).
- If webmail also fails, it’s an account/mailbox issue (storage, block, etc.)
2. Check mailbox storage
If your storage is full, Outlook won’t send or receive. Check storage (Settings > Account > Storage) and free up space if needed.
3. Force Restart Outlook
- Close Outlook completely
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, find "Outlook" in the list, right-click it, and select End Task to ensure no background processes are still running. Or restart Windows first, then open Outlook.
4. Test Outlook in Safe Mode (rules out add-ins)
- Close Outlook completely
- Press Windows + R > type:
outlook.exe /safe> press Enter - If it's stable in Safe Mode, an add-in is the likely trigger. In that case, disable add-ins in normal mode and re-enable them one by one.
- Go to File > Options > Add‑ins > Manage: COM Add‑ins > Go…
- Uncheck all unnecessary add‑ins, restart Outlook and re-enable one by one to find the culprit.
