I got a trial of microsoft 365 when i purchased my new computer. I was searching for best option for 1 time purchase and thought I had until Feb 25 to cancel trial, but got a message saying that the charge had been completed on Feb 24. I do not want the subscription, I would prefer the Office Home and Business one time purchase

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Did you receive an email receipt from Microsoft confirming the charge?
    2. Are you sure the subscription is active under your Microsoft account? Please sign in to: https://account.microsoft.com/services Do you see Microsoft 365 listed there? Is the status “Active”?

If the charge was just completed on Feb 24, you may still be eligible for a refund.

    On the same Services page:

    • Click Manage next to Microsoft 365
    • Select Cancel subscription
    • Follow the steps and check if it shows a Refund option.

If the refund option does not appear or if the issue persists, please provide more details by answering my questions.

Click "Add comment" below to let me know.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

To move from a Microsoft 365 trial that was just charged to a one-time Office purchase, two things are needed: cancel the Microsoft 365 subscription and then request a refund if eligible.

    1. Cancel the Microsoft 365 subscription
      1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the trial/subscription.
      2. Find the Microsoft 365 subscription and select Manage.
        • If you see Turn on recurring billing instead of Manage, the subscription is already set to expire and won’t be charged again.
      3. On the next page, select Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel), then choose I don’t want my subscription and follow the prompts to complete cancellation.
    2. Check refund eligibility
      • For Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium purchased from Microsoft, refund eligibility is checked after cancellation.
      • If the subscription was canceled in Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Korea, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, or Turkey, a prorated refund may be available depending on the country and subscription length. See the Countries with prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions link in the refund article.
      • If the subscription was purchased through Google Play or the Apple App Store, cancellation and refund must be requested directly from those stores using their refund processes.
    3. If the charge is not recognized or seems incorrect
      • Review charges and manage payments from the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard, as described in the refund article.
      • If the charge still appears incorrect or a self-service refund is not offered, contact Microsoft Support via the Contact Microsoft Support link in the refund article or use the billing support/contact options described in the Q&A references to have an agent review the charge and refund options.
    4. After canceling Microsoft 365
      • Once the subscription is canceled and any refund processed (if eligible), purchase Office Home & Business as a one-time license separately from the Microsoft Store or a retailer.
      • Be aware that canceling Microsoft 365 reduces cloud storage back to the free quota; if OneDrive or Outlook.com storage is above the free limit, files and email may be affected after the grace period.
