My Outlook opened this morning to the new version, not the Classic Outlook which I have used for years. All the messages I had kept in my inbox have disappeared (moved to Deleted Folder as I later found out.) This is NOT acceptable! I am having all sorts of issues with things that I have done the same way for years. I am attempting to send photos from my iphone to my outlook inbox and the photos will not send. I have tried sending just one photo at a time with no success. I have no idea why this is happening. I cannot continue with a project that I have been working on and have no idea how to fix this. Can someone explain to me what is going on and how to go back to the original outlook so I can continue working today.

You should be able to start the classic Outlook from the Windows Start menu. It will show up there alongside the new Outlook, assuming that both versions are installed.

If the classic Outlook is really missing, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/install-or-reinstall-classic-outlook-on-a-windows-pc-5c94902b-31a5-4274-abb0-b07f4661edf5 . You need a Microsoft Office product (a subscription or a perpetual license) which includes classic Outlook, of course.

New Outlook and classic Outlook use the same mailbox; messages moved to Deleted Items can be recovered and classic Outlook can still be used.

    1. Recover messages
      • In new Outlook, open the Deleted Items folder.
      • Select the messages that were moved from Inbox and move them back to Inbox.
    2. Check if Outlook is offline or disconnected (can affect sending/receiving, including photos)
      • If using classic Outlook, look at the status bar for Disconnected, Working Offline, or Trying to connect….
      • If shown, go to Send/Receive tab > select Work Offline to toggle back online, then try sending/receiving again.
      • Confirm internet access by opening a browser and visiting a website as described in the article.
    3. Fix general send/receive issues
      • Follow the steps under “I can't receive new email messages” to verify Outlook is online, the network is working, and account settings are correct.
    4. Return to classic Outlook
      • If classic Outlook is installed, it can be opened from Start menu as Outlook (classic Outlook for Windows).
      • If the “go back to classic Outlook” button in new Outlook does not work, use the Microsoft Store install link described in the “Go back to classic Outlook button not working correctly in new Outlook” article to reinstall classic Outlook.
    5. If Outlook is unstable or frozen
      • Use the troubleshooting steps in Troubleshoot Outlook for Windows issues for classic Outlook, including checking for background processes and repairing data files or profiles if needed.

If problems persist after restoring messages and confirming connectivity, repairing classic Outlook and the Outlook profile is recommended using the guidance in the referenced articles.
