Hello, I am reaching out because I just realized that some of my emails from some senders are going directly into my delete box. After not receiving emails from senders that stated they sent me an email twice. I looked into my inbox and junk mail. I decided to look into my deleted emails and there it was, also unread. I need to know how to prevent this from happening

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

If you haven't tried anything yet please start by:

Check your account rules and forwarding settings. You can do this in Outlook settings under Mail > Rules and Forwarding. https://support.microsoft.com/office/manage-email-messages-by-using-rules-in-outlook-c24f5dea-9465-4df4-ad17-a50704d66c59

Just to be safe, I’d recommend to sign out everywhere. Visit: https://account.live.com/proofs/manage/additional Scroll down to Sign me out and select "Sign me out".

After signing out everywhere, please monitor if the issue persists in the coming hours.

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

In new Outlook for Windows, messages can go directly to Deleted Items if junk/blocked settings or rules are affecting those senders. To stop this:

    1. Check Junk Email and mark as not junk
      1. Open the Junk Email folder.
      2. If messages from those senders are there, select them and choose It’s not junk or Mark as not junk. This moves them back to Inbox and trains filtering.
    2. Remove the senders from Blocked list and add as Safe Senders
      1. Select Settings (gear icon).
      2. Go to Mail > Junk email.
      3. Under Blocked senders / Blocked senders and domains, look for those email addresses or their domains.
      4. If found, select them and remove them from the blocked list.
      5. Add those addresses to your Safe senders list so future messages are not treated as junk.
    3. Check for rules that move or delete mail
      1. In Outlook.com / Outlook on the web, go to Settings > Mail > Rules (or Inbox rules).
      2. Look for any rule that:
        • Deletes messages, or
        • Moves messages to Deleted Items or another folder based on the sender or keywords.
      3. Edit or delete such rules so they no longer send those messages to Deleted Items.
    4. Turn off permanent delete for suspected junk (desktop Outlook) If using classic Outlook desktop alongside new Outlook and messages are being permanently deleted instead of going to Junk:
      1. In classic Outlook, on the Home tab, select Junk > Junk E-mail Options.
      2. On the Options tab, clear Permanently delete suspected junk e-mail instead of moving it to the Junk E-mail folder.
      3. Select OK.
    5. If messages still go to Deleted Items
      • Verify the senders are not on any blocked list (email provider, mobile mail apps, or contacts blocked on a phone). A blocked sender in another client (for example, a mobile app) can move messages to Deleted Items.
      • If the issue continues, use Outlook.com or Outlook on the web Help to contact support and provide examples of affected messages.
