    Hi Ethelyn Williams,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand you are trying to unhide or restore messages in the Phone Link app on Windows 11.

Please make sure you already tried the Q&A Assist steps. In addition, please try the following.

To better narrow this down, could you confirm:

    1. Are you using an Android phone or an iPhone with Phone Link?
    2. Which messaging app is set as the default on your phone (for example, Google Messages, Samsung Messages, or another app)?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

1, On your phone, open the default messaging app and confirm the conversation is not archived or hidden there.

    • Some messages marked as archived or filtered on the phone will not sync to Phone Link.

2, On the PC, open Phone Link and sign out of the app.

    • Restart the PC, then sign back in to Phone Link.

    3, Re-link the phone connection.

    • In Phone Link, remove the current device.
    • On the phone, unlink Phone Link from connected devices.
    • Link the phone again from scratch.

4, Make sure the phone is unlocked and connected when checking messages.

    • Some message types only sync while the phone is unlocked and actively connected.

    Hello,

Click the settings (gear) icon in the top right of the Phone Link app.

Select Features, then turn off the toggles for “Notifications” and “Messages.”

In Phone Link, messages that are hidden or missing generally cannot be “unhidden” from within the app itself. What appears in Phone Link is controlled by:

    1. The type of messages and apps used on the phone
      • Only regular SMS/MMS (and RCS on select Samsung devices) are supported. Messages from third‑party messaging apps (such as GroupMe, WhatsApp, etc.) do not sync into Phone Link, so they cannot be unhidden there.
      • For RCS on supported Samsung devices, Phone Link does not support typing indicators or read receipts, but the messages themselves should appear if Samsung Messages is the default messaging app.
    2. Phone Link message history limits
      • For Android: Phone Link shows text messages from roughly the last 30 days.
      • For iPhone via Phone Link for iOS: only messages sent and received while connected via Bluetooth are visible; disconnecting Bluetooth removes this history from the PC. These messages cannot be restored or unhidden later on the PC.
    3. Sensitive notifications on Android 15+
      • Android 15 can mark some notifications (such as 2FA codes and one‑time passcodes) as “Sensitive notification content hidden.” These are blocked from appearing in Phone Link and cannot be unhidden there; they must be viewed directly on the phone.
    4. Feature toggles in Phone Link
      • If messages were hidden because message syncing was turned off, re‑enable it:
        1. Open Phone Link on the PC.
        2. Go to Settings.
        3. Select Features.
        4. Turn Messages on.
      • Once re‑enabled, new supported messages will sync again, but previously unavailable content (e.g., third‑party app messages, sensitive notifications, or messages outside the history window) will not appear.

If the goal is to see GroupMe direct messages, those must be accessed in the GroupMe app or web client; Phone Link does not surface those conversations.
