Trying to send emails to less than 60 high school classmates about the death of a class member. Account has been blocked from sending "spam" after about 30 emails. How do I get around this?

    Hi, I'm John!

I understand this is a sensitive situation, and I’m sorry you’re having to deal with a sending limit on top of everything else.

For personal accounts, the best place to start is making sure your account is fully verified, check that your security info (like your phone number or alternate email) is up to date at https://account.microsoft.com

Once that’s done, the limits often lift within 24 hours.

If you really need to send the message now, the most practical option would be to use another email service (for example, a different personal email account) just for this announcement.

Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Outlook.com and Outlook on the web have built‑in sending limits and spam protection. When many similar messages are sent in a short time, the service can temporarily block further sending to protect against spam, even if the messages are legitimate.

To work around this when sending to a group such as classmates:

    1. Reduce the number of recipients per send and spread messages out over time instead of sending many similar emails in quick succession.
    2. Make sure all recipients are in Contacts so they are treated as known recipients. The article on issues sending mail recommends adding people to Contacts: see “Make sure that the people you send emails to are added to your Contacts on Outlook.com.”
    3. Ask recipients to add the sending address to their Safe Senders list so replies and follow‑ups are less likely to be flagged. Instructions for Safe Senders are in Safe Senders in Outlook.com as referenced.
    4. If a non‑delivery report is received, review the error text. Common causes include spam filtering on the recipient side or temporary server issues. The Outlook.com guidance notes that NDRs often state if the issue is due to spam filters or server problems and may resolve over time.
    5. If the account is newly created, be aware that Outlook.com applies a low sending quota initially. The quota increases automatically as normal usage is established; until then, keep batches small and avoid repeated retries after a block.

If a specific “delivery failed” or “blocked” error is returned, follow the guidance in the delivery‑failure article: wait if the message indicates the remote server will retry, or resend later if it was a temporary connection issue.
