Renew subscription after changing regions

I have an active subscription to Microsoft 365 but it's due to expire on 5th March, so I am being asked to renew the subscription. I bought the subscription when living in Europe, but have since moved to Peru: the current region on my account is Peru and when I go to renew the subscription it wants to charge me in the local currency. However it stalls at the last stage because it says I have an active subscription from another region. I can see that I could cancel this subscription but then I lose access to things (including OneDrive) until I get the new subscription: is this the only way to do it or is there another way? Thanks!

Hello, good day and thanks for your question. In this scenario, it is best to update your information first via https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2195908 and this also includes changing the country and then add the card that you will be using via https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments. As you have an existing subscription, you will need to cancel it first before subscribing again and then you can go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365/billing and try it from there or try to turn off the recurring billing at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2277073 and you can also follow the guided steps indicated from the link below.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/turn-recurring-billing-on-or-off-for-a-microsoft-subscription-66f40aee-2317-f74b-40f9-2be7e92f0167

You can also request a call back by going to https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2168171 in case you are having trouble cancelling or you have encountered any other issue.

This scenario is caused by region restrictions on Microsoft 365 subscriptions. A new subscription for the Peru region cannot be purchased while the existing Europe-region subscription is still active.

    The supported options are:

    1. Wait for the current (Europe) subscription to expire
      • Let the existing subscription expire on 5th March.
      • After it shows as expired, purchase a new Microsoft 365 subscription for the Peru region.
      • This avoids a region conflict but means there can be a gap in service if renewal is not done immediately after expiration.
    2. Cancel the existing subscription, then purchase in the new region
      • Cancel the current Europe-region subscription first.
      • Once that subscription is fully canceled/removed, purchase a new Microsoft 365 subscription in Peru.
      • Note that the guidance states a subscription for the new region cannot be purchased until the existing one is gone, so there is no supported way to overlap them.
      • Canceling early can cause loss of access to Microsoft 365 apps and OneDrive once the cancellation takes effect.

If timing and access continuity are critical (for example, to minimize or avoid downtime), contact Office/Microsoft 365 support to review options and exact timing for cancellation and new purchase in the new region.
