On Windows 7, the way to change brightness depends on whether it’s a laptop (built‑in display) or a desktop with an external monitor.

If using a laptop (built‑in screen):

1. On the taskbar, select Start.
2. Open Control Panel > Power Options.
3. At the bottom of the Power Options window, use the screen brightness slider to adjust the brightness.
   • You can also set different brightness levels for On battery and Plugged in in your power plan settings (Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Display > Display brightness).

If the brightness does not change or the slider is missing, update the display adapter driver:

1. Click Start, type Device Manager, and open it.
2. Expand Display adapters.
3. Right‑click your display adapter > Update driver and follow the instructions.

If using a desktop with an external monitor: Windows may not show a brightness slider. Use the physical buttons on the monitor (often on the front, side, or bottom edge) to open the monitor’s on‑screen menu and adjust Brightness there.
