Home download interrupted--now I'm told I have the program already

I bought Home 2024. When I pressed Download, I started getting a download for 365. If I'd wanted 365, I'd have bought it. So I stopped the download, and now I'm told I have my product, and too bad for me. Want to re-download it? Use Safari (which I don't have, don't want, and wouldn't know how to use), and go to such-and-such a link.

I have no idea what this is about. Am I doomed not to have Home 2024?

So far, I'm out $200 for a program I can't even access.

Please, please, please . . . can anyone help?

Thanks for answering, Stefan. Very kind and thoughtful of you. The problem's solved. Safari came up not because I'm downloading on a Mac, but because that's what the advice on my screen advised me to do. I did get an extra program, it seems--Home and Student 2021--but I haven't deleted it yet.

Office Home & Student 2021 includes the same apps as Office Home 2024, but these are two separate licenses.

Did you run Office Home & Student 2021 previously? Do you have a license for it in your account?

No new purchase is needed and Home 2024 is not lost. The key is to reinstall from the Microsoft account that the product is tied to and make sure the correct edition is installed instead of Microsoft 365.

    Use these steps:

    1. Confirm the correct Microsoft account
      • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services.
      • Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to redeem or buy Office Home 2024.
      • Under Services & subscriptions, look for Office Home 2024 (or similar one-time purchase entry).
      • If it does not appear, sign out and try any other Microsoft accounts you may have used.
    2. Start the correct download
      • Once Office Home 2024 is visible under Services & subscriptions, select Install next to it, then Install on this device.
      • This download is the one-time purchase version associated with the Home 2024 license, not a Microsoft 365 subscription.
    3. Remove any wrong/partial Office installations
      • On Windows, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Uninstall entries such as Microsoft 365, Office Trial, or any other Office versions that are not Office Home 2024.
      • Restart the PC after uninstalling.
    4. Run the installer
      • Open the downloaded setup file (for Windows, typically Setup.exe).
      • Let the installation complete.
    5. Activate Office Home 2024
      • Open Word.
      • When prompted, sign in with the same Microsoft account used in step 1.
      • Under File > Account, the product should show as Office Home 2024 and Product Activated.

If installation fails or still tries to install the wrong edition, use the Office uninstall/support tools and retry, or contact Microsoft support directly from the Contact Microsoft section in the installation article.

The name of the install package is usually the same regardless of version.

Since you mention Safari, are you trying to install on a Mac?
