How to Fix Windows Quick Settings

The past couple days I have been unable to open up my Quick Settings menu. My cursor loads and a blank screen appears, which quickly disappears (image attached below).

I have tried:

-Restarting Windows Explorers

-sfc scan and DISM scan

-Installing the latest Windows Update

However, nothing has worked so far. Any ideas?

    Hello Basic Haste,

    Welcome to the Q&A forum.

From what you shared, I see you cannot open the Quick Settings menu. When clicking the Quick Settings button, a blank UI briefly appears and then disappears. Since creating a new local account didn’t resolve the issue, here are a few additional methods you can try:

    1. Restart Shell Experience Host

    Open Task Manager

    End task:

    Windows Shell Experience Host

    StartMenuExperienceHost

    They will restart automatically

    Test Quick Settings again

    2. Restore the default policy state

Disclaimer: Modifying the registry or workgroups can help fix some problems, however, improper registry modifications can cause serious problems. Therefore, please make sure to follow the steps below strictly. For further protection, make a backup of the registry before modifying it. For more information on how to backup and restore the registry, please refer to: How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support

    • Press W + R to open Run.
    • Type regedit > press Enter.
    • In Registry Editor, click View > enable Address Bar.
    • Paste the following path into the address bar and press Enter: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
    • Double‑click DisableNotificationCenter
    • Set Value data to 0
    • If no DisableNotificationCenter exists > right-click the right pane > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, name it DisableNotificationCenter set to 0, then reboot or sign out/in and test Quick Settings.

This could restore default Windows behavior for Notification Center and Quick Settings.

Hope that helps. Let me know how it goes or if you need more assistance!

Hi, thanks for reaching out. That can happen if the Windows shell is having temporary issues. Can you confirm if this happens every time you click the menu, or only sometimes?

    You can check these:

Sign out and sign back into your Windows account. This refreshes your profile and shell.

Make sure Windows is fully updated: Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Restart Windows Explorer: Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, find Windows Explorer, right-click > Restart.

Run the System File Checker and DISM (you mentioned this is done, so the next step is):

Create a new local user account. Sign in there and check if Quick Settings works. If it does, your main profile may be corrupted.

If the new account works, I suggest migrating your files to the new account or performing a repair install using the official Windows 11 installation media.

If you need further assistance, I am just here. Thanks, and stay safe.
