Are you able to start an Office app first and then open a file via File > Open > Browse?

Follow these steps on Windows to repair Office when no apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) will open:

Close all Office apps
- Make sure Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. are all closed.
Run an Online Repair of Office (full repair)
1. Right-click the Start button.
2. Select Apps and Features.
3. Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office in the list.
4. Select it, then choose Modify (or the three dots → Modify).
5. In the repair window, choose Online Repair → Repair.
  - This is a full repair/reinstallation and fixes corrupted components.
  - It can take 15–30 minutes; do not cancel it.
6. When it finishes, restart the computer.
Test Office
- After restart, open Word or Excel directly from the Start menu and check that it opens normally.

If Quick Repair or “Repair now” was already tried from inside the error dialog, it is usually not enough; the full Online Repair from Apps & Features is the recommended next step.

If the problem still continues after Online Repair, completely uninstall Office from Apps and Features, restart the PC, then reinstall Office from the Microsoft account or school account where the license is assigned.
